Ground Texture Tutorials

Hello all,

I have a question (again :o ). Is there any tutorials for making ground textures for Trainz out there? All help is greatly appreciated,

Thank You, Chris

@ Greywolfretired - I'll send you a pm now.
@ Johnk - I mean creating ground textures.

Until GreyWolf finds his tutorial, there were a couple in last month's Trainz Community News. One was about creating a brick texture, but just replace the bricks with anything you like. You can use either Paintshop, Photoshop or IrfanView.

Make sure you read about Perspective Transformations tutorial, you're going to need to do this sometime.

This month's TCN which should be out in a few days (running late) has a very interesting tutorial on making wall, floor or pavement textures from a single brick, lump of wood or concrete. Also well worth a read when it comes out.

Note: The Issuu site has a strange way of displaying big projects. The white dots under the magazine represent every 20 pages. When you start, only the first 20 pages are shown. Click the second dot to get the next 20 etc.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you want,do you mean texturing the ground to make scenery, making bumps, hills, planting grass ect or do you mean making a texture from a photo of grass etc.
The one Im referring to is how to actually do the texturing ,making the scenery etc look realistic.

I don't mean as in applying the textures on baseboards in Trainz - I mean creating ground textures (from photos) to use in Trainz. I've got a whole heap of detailed photos of asphalt and grass and whatnot, just waiting to be used in Trainz.

Well the Tutorials in last month's TCN will be a great place to start. Sounds like you haven't bothered to look at them yet.

Hi Chris,

Until the formal tutorial is available, this may help.

Open for edit an existing ground texture. In the config.txt file, change it to your KUID and change the title to something you'll remember. Then, overwrite the included texture with your texture; keeping the original name.
You'll want to make sure your texture is saved as a 24-bit TGA file, and is aquare, with dimensions being a multiple of 2. For example, 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024, etc.

Import that new asset into CM (you should be able to just drag & drop the folder back into CM), and revert the original asset.

There are some details at http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/KIND_Groundtexture that might help.

That should get you started and let you get something into the game.

Hope that helps,
Curtis
