Green signal, but only operating at half line speed?

Hello all,

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place, but I'm just wondering, I have a track layout here and there's a signal at the end of the platform at green. The next signal beyond it is yellow but the train leaves the platform at half line speed, when the next signal (the yellow one) is about 1200m away. Anyone know how I can get trains up to full speed off the platform?

Jack

Hi Shane, nope that's not worked. Already tried it :( On the 40mph section it was doing 30mph, and on the 60mph section it was doing 30mph too, so it mustn't be half line speed, it seems they can't go above 30mph

I tried it with a 321 and a 166 and it happened with both. Think the speed signs are okay as it is showing the maximum speed as being 60mph :(

I rarely go over 15-30 mph ... But then again I'm a little slow :hehe: As are my framerates 6-19 FPS ... and my favorite switching speed is 5 mph

Jack,

Did you check that your junction levers are aligned for your train? If they are set for the other track, your AI will operate at a slower speed until they reach the junction and set the route for themselves. This also explains the yellow signal as the route is considered closed, and therefore, has a red signal at the incorrectly set junction. The trains are operating at the safety speed of roughly one half of the track speed on speeds over 40 mph. At 40 mph they will operate at 30 mph.

I hope I explained this correctly.

Cascade: 15-30mph is a little slow for a British mainline I'm afraid ;)

John: There is a fast and a slow line, which run parallel out of the first station and then merge just beyond the second station, approx 1 mile up the line. There are three signals between the first station and where the fast and slow line merge. The merge is set for the fast line, I am testing the slow line, and so the first signal is supposed to be green (then the second, yellow, and the signal just before the merge, red). The third signal, the one just before the merge, is supposed to stay red until just before the train departs the second station and changes the merge switch. I'm guessing, because of this, there is no way I can get trains above 30mph on the slow line as it will always be able to 'see' that red signal beyond the second station, even if it has just passed a green signal?

I always drive in Cab mode, but I'm testing the timetable I've compiled with the AI and this only happens with the AI driving. When I'm driving I generally give it full power, coast for about 10 seconds and then begin braking to the station. When the AI drives it gives full power and then maintains 30mph :(

The only thing I can think to do is set the merge switch in favour of the slow line, so all slow line signals are green unless a train on the fast line approaches...

How many locos are attached to the consist? If more than one make sure that both locos are compatible. Same maker or same engine specs.

Hi Stouthm,

I am currently testing a British Electric Multiple Unit, so technically it has a locomotive at either end with a cab at the ends, and between them a locomotive with no cab and a trailer that the pantograph is mounted to (4 carriages). All carriages have the same specs and are made by the same creator, Nexusdj. I believe a re-signalling and possibly adjusting the track layout further may be in order as I can't seem to fix this :(

I have the same problem Jack.

I have been using the same layout for ages without any issues, but this problem has started in recent times.

I don't know what is causing it.

Is there a possibility that the signals were upgraded since they worked previously but no longer work now.

Just supposing...

John

I am using Razorback Railway which I have modified for t12.

It was working fine but like I have said, in recent times it has changed.

I thought it might be the direction the track was laid????

Don't really know. I have been just putting up with it.

I have noticed that the speed changes when the next signal turns amber from green, even though that next signal may be many K's up the track.
