Great Lakes Central Railroad - Screenshots

Very nice work! It's nice to see another Michigan route being done and not by me. :p After seeing your screenshots of the Huron River Bridge over the NS Michigan Line, I noticed your modeling part of the Ann Arbor Railroad, too. Are you including it all the way down to Toledo or just to Osmer Siding where the GLC and AA interchange?

Hi Chris, nice to meet you! I'd like to say here first, that I've downloaded several of your routes and enjoy them alot. Thanks for the hard work you do to model Michigan's railroads!

Now to your question. Yes I have the northern part of the AA route, I decided to start there with the interchange at Osmer with the GLC, but just from Argo Pond north. And the proposed WALLY passenger service will use this route from Holly to Plymouth Road, the GLC providing the power and passenger cars. I haven't heard any news on that lately however...

Note: Added another screenshot of WIP I did tonight of Rhetech, Inc, as seen from the woods across the GLC mainline looking northeast. The first image looks southwest, so basically opposite views in each shot.

More Rhetech Inc. Screenshots

I worked some more on detailing Rhetech Inc.; my first industry for the GLC route.

This first view is looking across E North Territorial Road and the GLC crossing; southeast towards Rhetech Inc. The front lawn and landscaping is visible with the parking lot directly behind in front of the administrative portion of the plant.

This next shot is looking southwest; again across E North Territorial Road. A small pond is visible behind the perimeter chainlink security fence.

And finally, a closer view from the GLC main line looking at the Rhetec Inc. Siding. Hoppers wait to be used on the two siding tracks. The GLC mainline continues south towards Osmer Siding.

Wow...Thats looking really nice....To bad I couldnt run it....I didnt get to 09 yet and prolly wont get it either :(

Wheat Harvest

I was out for a drive one Saturday morning in late July, heading north on Nollar Road in Northfield Township, when I spotted the GLC Grain Train heading north after picking up the grain hoppers at the Osmer Siding. I pulled over to the side of the road to grab a shot of the train. It was then that I noticed a local farmer harvesting the early wheat crop and thought that'd make a good setting. It looks like he only has a few more rows to go. This picture was taken just south of Rhetech, Incorporated; located on E. North Territorial Road. The farmer's property runs adjacent to Rhetech's southern property boundary.

I've been texturing and placing more objects around Rhetech, Inc. and this is just but a part of my work. More to come!

Thanks guys for the compliments. That definitely keeps me going strong. Next up is to finish that farm; including the barn, housing etc. It won't be prototypical, but from MSVE I'll get as close as I can to the buildings. That field is huge as well, need to finish it up yet.

North of the farm is a row of houses that runs from just north of those trees along Nollar Road up to E. North Territorial Road. Those will be a WIP as well. Their property touches the eastern border of Rhetech Inc. So Rhetech is bordered by E. North Territorial Road to the north; a row of houses to the east; the trees and farm field to the south; and the GLC to the west. Microsoft Virtual Earth image below:

Thanks for stopping by and again for the compliments and more to come!

Hibbard Road - Vernon, MI

Hi all!

I've been busy working on my route near Durand and Vernon, MI. Here is some of what I've done...

Summer 2009

I had to stop by my friends house to pick up a video game I had lent him one sunny summer morning. I was heading down the driveway of his house on Hibbard Road, which is northwest of Vernon. I had my window down and I heard the tell-tale whistle of a train coming from further northwest up the tracks. Sure enough it was heading southwards! By the time I got to the end of the driveway I barely had enough time to grab my camera and catch the tail-end of the lashup! I barely caught the sweet lashup of GLC power! GP35s numbers 389 and 391 were trailing behind the two lease GMTX units 3663 and 3675, which unfortunately I was unable to catch.

I got back in my pickup and pulled out on to Hibbard Road. I saw no cars were coming behind me so I stopped and got out to snap another shot of the GLC train heading south towards Durand and ultimately to the Osmer Siding north of Ann Arbor.

I got back in the truck and pulled up behind a couple cars already waiting for the train. I again got out and snapped this shot. I caught the end of the train to boot!

As it was a pretty nice day, I decided to catch some more shots with my new camera. I pulled ahead of the tracks and off to the side of the road. I climbed into the back of my pickup and got this shot of a highway in rural Michigan.

That highway is M-71 and I decided to cross it, looking both ways first and dashed over to underneath a maple tree. I took a shot looking back west the way I'd come down Hibbard Road.

I again crossed M-71 after a string of cars had gone by and grabbed this shot of a closer view of the Huron and Eastern Railway crossing. The GLC has trackage rights to run the HESR from Owosso to the GLC cutoff south of Durand on the Canadian National's Holly Sub.

Well, it's time to get back on the road and head back to Durand. I look up M-71 before I proceed on to the highway and head south past Vernon and ultimately to Durand. What a great day already and it's only 10:15 in the morning!

Fictional story btw...

Nice story and pretty nice shots......Keep em comin

Thank you kindly there Mr. WCL! I take that as a high compliment. Of course the basemaps are still down and haven't gotten to texturing this yet. That will be down the road yet.

I'll keep them coming as time permits. Getting into a bit of a busy period here for me and been burning the midnight oil to get what work I have done.

Keep checking back for more everyone!

Heya WCL...

Well glad you asked. Time for a bit of an update I guess.

I've been very busy this summer, and trying to find time to work on it is kind of a pain. But I have found some things that I learned about building a prototype route.

Scale, ouch did I get that totally wrong the first and second tries! I finally have found a system that works for me and I've got my scale very close to proto! I started at Osmer siding north of Ann Arbor and rescaling my way north up to Vernon, where those last screenshots are taken.

But other than that, I plan to finish this route someday. Hopefully time will work in my favor.

Thanks for asking though WCL!

Heya Chris,

Funny you should mention this, I just brushed the dust off of this project just yesterday. I'm in an information-gathering mode at this point, and we'll see where it goes from there.

Thanks for stopping by and checking up on it.

Thank you

Finally someone is modeling the Annie in Northern Michigan. Keep up the great work!!!!! Now if we could just get someone to make a Wabash style caboose. :) :) :)

Thanks for the compliments. Sadly, I've been busy this summer with other projects, work, etc., that I've put the GLC in limbo for now. I plan to get back to it, hopefully sometime this winter. We'll see.

But thanks for the compliments and I surely hope to see this project to fruition, someday.

:)
