Has anyone made a route based off images on Google Earth? If so please give any tips because I am going to try doing that by creating this track that is by where I live. Thanks!!

You use the GE Ruler tool, orientate the minimap northerly, measure a GE straight a way, approximate the same compass angle of alignment in Trainz, lay a Trainz straight that length, straighten it and connect a curve with two straights ... no need for a DEM

Maybe a noob question but... what is a DEM?

It stands for Digital Elevation Model.
