Going back to SP3

I tried using SP4 again. I really wanted to see if I could make it work, but it's way too buggy. I'm sure some people are okay with it and it is working for them, but it just isn't worth the frustration on my part. I'm not going to go into the specifics - it's just little things (and quite a few little things) that do not function the way they did in SP3.

Hi Chili, frustration is not good I agree SP4 is not good as it is
I have tested SP5beta and most of the trouble from SP4 is solved
So 2 advices:
-Have a little patience SP5 is soon to arrive
-If you have the space on your drives, make a full copy of your current version
and install that SP5beta in 1 of them
greetings GM

Thanks GM. I am an avid proponent of patching having spent the last 30 years in IT as an Engineering Specialist. I'm also very aware that sometimes a patch will break things and will need to be backed out. I am all for your idea of create two installs. I can do that.

Good decision Chili
As Engineering Specialist, you will understand the complexity of this software
the core of it is probably 22 years old, gradually changing step by step.
Only 2 or 3 actually scripting/programming it, hundreds of lil pieces of code/script have to work together
some may not even have been documented well and written by people long gone.

Often I am a total PITA, cause I spot a lot and never learned to lie,
but always have great respect for the people at Auran/n3v.
Best we can do is, test a lot, post what we find and together make it better step by step.
And most important, make sure you always have a version that suits you best and have fun.

Do you have access to an original SP3 version or is it still available from the Download Station?
My mega route which I have developed over many years is not able to be run in Drive Session mode.
I only discovered this about two weeks ago as I have been reconstructing part of it in a new route and determined it was time to carry out a merge.
Frustrated to say the least.

Tony posted this link, for a full sp3 install

Jack if you make a new session, does it then work?
other option make a clone of the session, maybe just that session is corrupt

To avoid very big routes (merge)
have developed a trigger that brings you to another route and works in SP3 and higher
see this thread a download is post 49 on page 4 of that thread

I went back to SP3 after the patch, which was buggy for me too. SP3 serves me fine. I don't know exactly what I'm missing from from SP4 or if I needed any of it to improve my user experience, but ignorance is bliss when no frustrations are lurking.

Given the number of rollbacks from other users, I think I've made the right choice for my purposes.

Trainz continues to be very enjoyable nonetheless.

Many thanks for that, I will install in a new drive which is empty at the present moment.
Will then attempt to import my route and session.
I had it running great prior to SP4.
Will advise.

10th Jan Progress notes

Performed a full install of TRS19 SP3 on a new drive.
Took a log time and needs to be tweaked, missing unknown kuids which will have to be extracted from SP4, all takes time.

in the interim my Drive Session is now working again all be it missing commands associated with my portals.

It is all a matter of personal perspective. I have had a few cosmetic hiccups with SP4 that were not present in SP3 but nothing that would make me go through all the trouble of rolling back to SP3. I have been using the SP5 beta and those hiccups have all been fixed. So I am looking forward to SP5 being released.

Nailed it pware - one size does not fit all. Yes, SP4 added some nice eye-candy and maybe other functions that I'm not aware of, but SP3 definitely is working better for me. Having said that, I too am looking forward to SP5 when it's released. Also, GM had an excellent idea about having two versions running. I have the space and will absolutely try that. I didn't find rolling back to SP3 all that troublesome. I had full backups of the game and my data directory, so it was just a matter of spending a few hours copying everything back over and doing a full db rebuild. I could have just pointed to the backup copy, but it was on slow spinning disks.
