GMax Problem - No mltgen.dlt

Remember the Withered Arm
If, like me, you leave GMax untouched for a while, or reinstall it, you may find that you can't open it any more.

The message you get is:

mltgen.dlt missing

I trawled and trawled the internet. I uninstalled GMax and Trainz Assets Creation Studio and reinstalled them. I had no success, despite re-installing GMax to a different directory and even a different hard drive!

I searched for this mltgen.dlt and found it residing in the GMax/stdplugs directory, so GMax was telling fibs - the "missing file" was there all along!

Reading an article on 3ds Studio Max, the problem was identified as a corrupted *.ini file.

So, I deleted gmax.ini from the main GMax directory and the two *.ini files from Trainz Assets Creation Studio.

Eureka! When I fired up GMax again, it rebuilt the *.ini files and I was straight in! So, if you get this missing mltgen.dlt file you'll know what to do!
