Hi All

been sometime since my last posts Been busy creating items for TRS2006 in GMAX which will be coming out as Payware items on our web site which is being developed as we speak.

These items will be high in detail and as low as pos in poly's.

However I need a little help.

How do I get an object to animate in a straight line?

For example a conveyor belt with objects on it. I want to animate the objects to simulate movment from one end of the belt to the other. Problem is I cannot find out how this is done. I can get it to animate in every direction but not in a straight line

Anyone any idears how to do this

Thank you all

Kevin

JBM TRAINZ 2010

I had the same problem when I was trying to animate the loads on my conveyor belts. It's not a perfect solution, but I basically animated to separate planes that are the length and width of the conveyor belt. I had each belt (alternately) move forward about 6 inches or a foot (can't remember what length I finally decided on). After it moved forward the specified length, it would drop down about 2 inches and the other plane would rise about 2 inches after which it moved forward the same distance as the first one. At that point, it would drop down and the first plane would rise back to it's starting position. During animation, it appears as if the textured load is moving forward.

It took a lot of trial and error, but as from a distance, it's satisfactory.

I don't believe that there's a real good solution to the problem since the trainz exporter in Gmax doesn't support scaling as far as I'm aware. This has also been a problem with cables extending on some cranes. I think the solution used by some creators was to telescope the cable as it extended and retracted.

I hope this helps a little.

Mike
