Giving up [solved]

I have finally given up on Trainz despite the years of pleasure it gave ne on my previous computer.
It seems the build I was given when I signed up again, 115635, is well out of date - I don't know if that's the reason, but I have been unable to set up AI trains - but worse than that, it seems I can't upgrade.
To download the patch to build 115925, I have to enter my password - so far so good - but then Password Installer comes up, and that will not accept my password not any older password I can remember. Support insists it uses the same password as everything else, which is clearly not the case, and, showing their ignorance of Macintosh, they offered me an exe file.
I have tried and lost, but it is clear that I am never going to be able to use TRS2022, so I am finally giving up.

Password is always the same, make sure you are using the correct case, that's often where people get it wrong it's the same password you use for the forum.

You can download the latest version from My Trainz, bottom left, if having a problem patching, probably easier than doing a load of patches.

I can't quite follow your exact issue, but here are some things that may help:
1. MyTrainz username and password are the same as for logging in to the game
2. Patching is done in game, so I'm not sure what ".exe" you're talking about.
3. Your build 115925 is quite old, so there are a few patches required using the Trainz Plus beta stream
4. You can bypass the patching process by installing the latest version of Trainz Plus from MyTrainz. Note that the .exe installers are at the top of the page and you need to scroll down to find the Mac .dmg installer

It clearly is not the same. I have tried over and over.

1. So Support keep telling me and yet I have tried and tried again, but Patch Installer rejects my password - the same password I have to enter to reach that point.
2. The .exe file was offered by Support when I submitted a Ticket. Mac does not recognise exe as a proper file name and assumes it is a mistake for .txt
3. The game is pointing me straight to build 115925
4. I do not know how to install from MyTrainz, and .exe does not work in Mac

Macs use dmg files not exe to install, need to download the TRS19 STANDARD EDITION Installers for Mac, bottom of this page: https://www.auran.com/planetauran/DownloadTRS19.php

Download the installer then double click the dmg file.

Thanks for the tip. Tried it yesterday, but no luck -perhaps it didn't download properly. I will try again, but it is hard to maintain interest in this difficult game.

What did not work? Where did it fail? How much disk space do you have available?
You are going to MyTrainz and what exactly are you downloading.
(You cannot get help if you don't give details. Saying "perhaps it didn't download properly" does not help at all.)
Give an exact step by step of what you are doing...

Not quite sure what is going on. This time I downloaded the Mac TRS2019 dmg. Created a bit of landscape, then when I went to build a station, the whole thing seized up and I had to force quit - I tried 3 times without success. Will try again tomorrow.

I'm back where I was before. TRS2019 looks as if it's working in that it allowed me to create landscape, but the "objects" menu doesn't work, although, to be fair, even though I can't see I'm clicked on anything, it was placing trees for me - sort of, sorry we can't show you stations or any other objects but here's a tree.
With TRS2022, I got two results: the first one is just as before: the Patch Installer wants a different password from any I know. The other one, which I downloaded as a dmg simply told me it was incompatible with my OS - currently 12.2.1

The first issue sounds to me that it has to do with caching. When there is a fresh install, lots of content installed from packages, a Database Repair, third-party CDPs installed, or big installs from the DLS, asset caching occurs. You can see this process taking place in two ways. The first by a message at the top of the screen in small white text which is sometimes difficult to say. This will say something like precaching content <some kuid: here>. This will repeat until all the content has been cached. There is a technical way around this, but I'll leave that for another time. Usually, once the precaching has occurred, the assets and menus will load up quickly. Depending upon how much content you have, this process can take a few minutes to a lot longer.

Although I am not familiar directly with the Mac OS since I haven't supported it in years, I will assume that this is a permissions thing. Why your machine is asking for someone else's permissions or asking you for your own means you are installing your update under an account that doesn't have administrator or superuser privileges that is required to install the patch. There are ways around this that I am familiar with on Windows and in Linux, but not directly with the Mac OS.

John is correct. That is your Mac asking for the password to the user account Robert Bannister, nothing to do with Trainz. Like John, I haven't touched a Mac in ten years so maybe one of the Mac users know if there is a workaround.

Yes... That's the Mac asking for admin OK and not Trainz. Enter you Mac userid and PW.

Also... the only "incompatible" I've seen on my Mac versions (which I run a LOT less than my Windows installs) is when the app version was incompatible with the graphics system on the Mac (Metal). There are several compatiblibity issues with app versions and OS.

Yes, Mac admin ID and password and not Apple account ID and password. I get tripped up on that one sometimes.

My thought had also been that Patch Installer was asking for a password that was somewhere hidden in my system, but I have no idea how I could replace it. I also thought that if I could completely delete the 2022 version and reinstall it, I might get somewhere, but my computer won't let me access the place where it is (long address starting with "User/"), so I can't even do that. On my old iMac, I could go to Library and find my way to where all the Trainz stuff was hidden. Progress - bah humbug!

OMG! That is exactly what it wanted. I have yet to discover whether Trainz will now work for me as it used to, but in the meantime, my humble thanks.
I am tempted to change my computer user name to something silly, so I know what they're talking about when they want that password, but no doubt that would cause other problems. Computers were designed to drive us mad, after all.
