Getting Items to work in TS12

Hi
I went from TRS2006 to TS12 but so much of the content I had before ( especially Locos ) will not work in TS12 and shows lots of errors.

Can anything be done about this ? I have no real understanding of computers and programmes etc so please if you can help keep the explanation " dumb dumb " simple.

There were just some great locos I had in TRS2006 and I would like to have them again !!

It would be a wonderful program, if opening an asset for edit in the CMP, it automaticly converted 06 assets into 12 assets, and 12 assets to 06 assets, by typing in the requested Trainzbuild ... but that is just a pleasent dream ... and Trainz is a harsh reallity were nothing is easy, and things are not set up properly.

Most can be updated, but it is a tedious process. You can begin by running them though Content Creator Plus (look under edit in CMP). This will update the build # and tags in the config file. However it may also introduce previously hidden errors and warnings. The errors must be fixed in order for the asset to appear and operate in game. Are you up to the challenge? Try one and see how it goes. There are many posts on repairing assets. Trainz 2010 is somewhat more tolerant of older assets since it has compatibility mode.

I think your best bet for content fixing will be to use a utility called AssetX by Andi06.

Go to this site to download "AssetX": http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~villaump/pevsoft.htm You will also need some of the other utilities from the site.

Then you're out of luck. :'( Choices are continue to have no understanding and live without old content, or learn computers and programs etc enough to repair busted stuff. There are some dummies guides here and there, but "monkey see monkey do" simply won't work for computer software hacking.

Hello, Don't pay any attention to the doom and gloomers.
Just transfer all your items into Trainz12 and then do a EDR. Next time you start Trainz you will be told of lots of updates available, just click the "Download All" tab and let it do it's stuff. When it's done, the vast majority of your assets will have been updated.
The update process is running constantly at the moment so each time you start Trainz12 you will no doubt get the choice to update more assets. Good luck and happy Trainzing. :wave:
