German railfans in America (vacation tips anyone?)

You promise to post pictures when you get back!

Wolfgang,

You promise to post pictures when you get back! I would like to see the KSC yard too!

I believe that is Union Pacific's yard.

If you want to see a huge U.P. yard on Google Earth, check out their yard
in Cheyenne Wyoming. I'm about an hour south of there.

Argentine Yard(isn't that the name?) is pretty neat; I haven't been there but have seen plenty of pictures. I have been to North Platte though....it makes Argentine look small, but it's more inaccessible. Here's a Google Maps aerial pic link...just keep scrolling left and you'll see just how big it really is. Argentine's still bigger than what I've got here in town, though, so enjoy it :)

Hey everyone:wave:

Just thought I'd give you an update, tomorrow I'm flying off to America. I'll be flying out from Ramstein AB to BWI and I'll stay the night there because my layover is so darn long. The following morning I'll fly out to Kansas City, and the fun shall begin;)

If you see any private cars with MRLX reporting marks, send them my regards (see if that comes up when I get to Gateway next week). :p

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier.

Having reserrected from the near dead, Im now leaving Australia on Good Friday to spend a month railfanning around the US in an RV.

Starting in LA, I'll be wandering through Az, Co, Utah, and then head to Chicago area. From there I drop into Penn, and finally into NY in mid April.

I then fly back to Chicago and take the train back across the Rockies to LA.

Wilee, maybe we will bump into each other around a rail yard. Just look for an RV with an Aussie flag!

Hey everyone:wave:

Though they may well be typical, everyday sights to (some of) you, to me they are something entirely new, and in that respect worth photographing. Having woken up a bit too early today I packed up and headed out from Wichita to Manhattan, Kansas, En route I photographed these two American novelties (for me at least)...

When will you be in the Kansas City area? For all I know we could well bump into each other.

Gday again,

I wont be in Kansas City. I will be travelling to the south, through Phoenix (26-27th March), a fast dash up to Denver, back down to Oklahoma, St Louis, and up to Chicago, arriving there on the 10th April.

From there I will be running east into Pennsylvania for a week, finishing up in NYC on about the 17th.

After that I will be flying back to Chicago to grab the train back to LA.

Any of that sound like we might pass each other?

If not, enjoy your trip, I intend to enjoy mine! :)

Cheers,

Hey everyone:wave:

Yes I've gone out again today, this time from Manhattan, Kansas to Leavenworth, and inbetween I photographed yet more train stuff.

The railroad station in Manhattan. Don't let the fresh paint and roadbed fool you though, the station (and the track) is abandoned, the used railroad tracks are about 20 yards behind me (to Ft. Riley?).

One of two former railroad stations in Leavenworth, formerly serviced by the ATSF, then abandoned (line was used for freight traffic until sometime in the 80's I've heard). Today it is a resteraunt, the only reminders of the old days are the 50ft sections of rail used as parking barriers (the ones your tires hit) and the not so obvious line the tracks took in front of the place (hint: look right).
