Gathering Information!

Since 2001
Hi All,

A dear friend asked me about my Desert Layout, and he asked me about the size (how many baseboards) of the route. Frankly, I have no idea since it was a custom map that I downloaded from the DLS so long ago!

So my question, is there a rule, way, or some other 3rd party program which can gather information on your layout?

Thanks
Ish

Not sure about amount of baseboards, but the ScanTrack rule (available on the DLS) can give some useful information regarding amount of industries, longest/shortest track length, highest/lowest speed limits etc.

The only thing I can suggest is to count the number of baseboards on the map in Surveyor! This will be a long job if it's a large layout - and it would be so easy to lose count.

I did it by eye using minimap and couldn't work out any other way to do it. I had to break it down by sections eg, 20 x 15 boards and so on. I gave up on accuracy when it reached in excess of 3000 boardsszzzz.zzzzzzzzzzz.

I think I try Shane's suggestion here --- thanks a bunch!

thanks to all who participated on this thread as well!!

Map Reader V1.0 will give you the number of baseboards, and square miles, (or square kilometers) on your map.

I originally downloaded the app in September 2006, however, I'm unable to currently find it on the Forums.

It's called Map Reader V1.0 by GCN. The creator's name is Ian Spencer, and his username is "Speic". i also tried Googling it, but to no avail. Maybe someone knows where it can be found.

I just tried it on a large map in TS2010, and it works well. Below are the results for my WM & B&O Mega Route.

Hi Joe,

I know Ian very well, but he left trains many years ago -- I think it can be found at trainz.luv etc!

I see if I can find it there, or if I have a copy somewhere in my mountains of files!

I just completely forgot about this powerful tiny program! Hopefully Auran implement something similar in future products of trainz!

Thanks again
Ish
