Is there anyone having problems with FTP downloads. Is there a good program out there. i lost mine can't find one that works with trainz.

Thanks

Jim

Jim

Most FTP programs should work with Trainz. I use CuteFTP and have done for many years, works every time. For a free one look for CoreFTP which I tried for a while when we were making the DHR. It also works OK, but I prefer CuteFTP

Hi Jim,

I'm going to suggest you take a peek at Trainz Agent for your downloading requirements. I find it very handy and it can check for dependencies as well. I got my copy from RBR before they became a subscription site but it must be available elsewhere. Maybe a quick Google?

Hope this helps

Cheers
Russell.

Hi Guys,

Sorry to jump in here but I have FTP issues and was hoping for some assist as well.

I downloaded CuteFTP at your suggestion (I used to have FileZilla operating well error free until the end of November or so)

I have since set CuteFTP up using the Wizard, I get to the site, I can open
the initial folders but when I get to the asset folders I get a time out.

Have you recently connected successfully?

What settings are you using?

Thanks for your time,

The FTP option on DLS is misnamed and should be called "manual download". You don't need an FTP program or any other special software to use it. Just use your normal web browser program (IE or Firefox, etc).

After the CDP file has been downloaded, find it with Windows Explorer and double-click it. It will then be installed.

If the asset has dependencies, you will have to obtain each of them separately which is obviously a major pain with layouts.

Hi
I think there is a problem with using FTP. See the thread in the DLS,FCT section started by me. I am not skilled enough to insert a link here.

I have been using an FTP programme for years on the DLS but suddenly a couple of months ago it started to time out. :'( Just like the post above.

I suspect that connecting to the DLS folder list has been prevented. Though if you know the particular KUID number you can retreive it.

I have no problems getting to the 'restricted' folder but very slow at each step. Finally chose 'rollingstock' folder and waited. Finally a timeout error.

227 Entering Passive Mode (74,52,108,19,158,45).
COMMAND:> LIST
STATUS:> Connecting FTP data socket... 74.52.108.19:40493...
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list
ERROR:> Timeout (60000 ms) occurred on receiving data from the server.

I think you guys a hitting a server problem as my connection was never so slow as this and this is the first timeout message I have seen. My default timeout settings are 30 secs so I don't think the message comes from CuteFTP as it appears that in this case timeout period is 60 secs and probably comes from the server.

More information. CM2 always works 100% for me so this may be of interest.

In CM2 I select 'Location - Download Station' and get a page of content. If I refine the search to 'Locomotives' or 'Rollingstock' I get nothing which seems to confirm there is a server problem.

That first page was searched for a loco or wagon and I found none. Bogies and other bits but not the bodies

Hi Jim,
I am using Trainz Downloader Pro which as far as I know using FTP. It also checks dependencies.
I can't remember the link I downloaded it from & the website in its help file doesn't exist,
Hope this is may be of some help,
Lance

Greetings Peter,

Thanks for testing your side of the FTP equation. It appears that we are now limited to using the standard methods of grabbing content from their servers, at least for now.

IKB

Try to FTP to the restricted folder now and see what you get. I get into the folder but timeout on any of the subfolders. It is not a fault of the FTP client as a similar thing is happening with CM2. CM2 will show and download anything except Locomotives and Rollingstock. For those two categories it shows nothing. Yesterday morning Oz time, I downloaded one of Apogee's trams without a hitch so I know my setup is working

CMP in 2006 does exactly the same Try looking for a locomotive.

but FTP works fine for me amd always has done

Before yesterday afternoon I would have said the same. There is a server problem, I am sure of it.

I can get as far as the TRAINZ01 folder but if I try to open a subfolder it times out before opening.

And the saga continutes.

Command: CWD /Restricted/trainz/TRAINZ01/rollingstock
Response: 250 CWD command successful
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 Type set to I
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (74,52,108,19,170,175).
Command: LIST
Response: 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Maybe if we all make a wish that their FTP servers power shuts off and it gets a reboot....

One can hope for a miracle.

Lenny
