FRUSTRATING

I can't seem to get the AI Drivers to do anything I want! I can't seem to get them to use the sidings that I switch for them and I even give them a lower priority! And I don't know if the path rule is effective. Can someone help me please?

Are the sidings empty, if not permissive signals will get them to go in.
You could also try reducing the radius of the track mark, I've found having a line of t/m's across say 5 sidings confuses them. Also stagger the t/m's.
A lot of points/switches close together also doesn't help.
It takes a lot of trial and error to get a yard working as you would like.

I mean like where two tracks merge into one and I want the other train to wait until another passes by before it continues. Plus I even switch the track into the siding but it still chooses to switch into the main track, the track I'm on. And yes the siding is empty.

You need to use a combination of signals, direction markers and track marks.

Direction markers - the yellow arrow things are like one-way signs. They force the traffic to go one way.

Track marks - the red arrow things are like bread crumbs to lead the AI along.

Using the signaling setup mentioned numerous times on the forums here, along with the other items mentioned above, and you'll get everything working well.

Overall the AI tend to follow directions, but occasionally they will ignore a track direction marker, skip past a track mark, or blow through a red light. In many cases this is caused by a lot of other things going on at the same time in the computer. Blowing past a red is usually caused by a too high a speed for the train, and the distance to the signal. Remember it takes a lot longer to stop a train than it does to stop a car, particularly if the train is very heavy; freights take a lot longer to stop than even a passenger train, which is lighter.

do you have TM's at opposit ends of the siding.
where your train is setting is east and you want your train go to TM west, passing your train.
i set my TMs just before the signal and sett the radis to 00.05 the engine will stop overtop the TM.

Kris, do you have both converging lines signaled?
I only ever signal one of the converging lines.

If you want one train to wait until another passes by, use a trigger. You can then set the wait rule to wait for one specific train or any train that the trigger detects.

Remember the AI does what you actually say, not what your mean to say. The less you leave open for interpretation, the closer to your intended instructions that they will follow. If a shorter path is available, they will take it unless you do something about it.

If you put trackmarks (and name them) from beginning to end of route, and name each one consecutively A, B, C, D, E ... Z ... etc ...

And in the tell the train to drive via trackmark A, B, C, D, E ... Z

If you have a multirack line you could name trackmarks along tracks 1, 2, 3, 4
drive via trackmark 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E ... 1Z
drive via trackmark 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E ... 2Z
drive via trackmark 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 3E ... 3Z
drive via trackmark 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E ... 4Z

Put a trigger on the main past the siding and a t/m in the siding, and give the train in the siding the commands nav to t/m, wait for trigger xxx to be triggered by a-any train or b- a specific loco.

"AI switching demonstration" route & session

Hi Kris --

I know it's very simplistic to say, but it's all done with track markers, triggers and driver commands.

I'm not sure it it's any use, but if you watch this in full screen and HD you might be able to see the markers and triggers in the first short sequence, and also the commands that are used to instruct the AI what to do:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39iJz4AmlMU

The route and session that I used to make the video are on the Download Station. Look for "AI switching demonstration TS12". I see that you have TS09. You might be able to get this TS12 route working if you edit the config.txt files to make the trainz-build suitable for TS09. If you can get it working pop into Surveyor to see what makes it tick.

Please tell me it it helps in any way.

Phil

ai blowing right past industry stops

ai wont stop at any industrys tried track markers, and signals. ai keep changing direction even with the one way signals then wont stop at there destanation used trigers and gave them commands. its like the blind leading the blind the ai are useless
