Hi everyone .

I'm starting this thread for anyone who wants to ask a general question regarding anything to do with trainz or real trains.

I have the first question. Is there a difference between an F40PH and an F40PH-CAT?

Yes. The F40PH-CAT design houses a seperate engine alternator set, called a HEP, that's located in the rear of the loco's engine compartment. The HEP (head end power) unit provides electric power for the passenger train, sometimes called 'hotel' power.
