I do not have the highest score I COULD get, which is by setting the quality to low in the nvidia driver configure panel.
I am not looking for a high score, I am looking for a good video recording, a high quality benchmark.
Pay attention to the settings in your graphics panel, and the settings in the program.
I do my benchmarks with the best quality settings the program has.

I did the benchmark with recording settings of 70Mbps and a frame rate recording cap of 60fps at 2560x1440.
I used msi afterburner to lock my gtx1080 core voltages and clocks.
This results in more stable video with less jerkiness and stutters.
I was able to increase my score by cleaning my os with ddu in safe mode, reinstalled latest gpu drivers.
I used the nvidia profile inspector to change the profile for TANE, to use GTA5 as its profile.

I decided to do a graphic driver system clean, so I RESTARTED into safe mode and ran DDU. This program cleans your GPU drivers out completely so you can BE SURE you are using latest.
It also will help you reset your settings if you want, the graphic settings in the nvidia menu(or amd), and also resets the NVIDIA PROFILES (this is very important issue)

AFTER, cleaning I restarted and reinstalled the latest nvidia drivers. 385.69.
I restarted again after installing the drivers.
I left the graphic settings alone, and made sure g-sync was on(in full screen mode) and my resolution and refresh rate are what I want.
I did go into the MANAGE 3D SETTINGS--->global settings---PowerManagement---- Change to "Prefer Maximum Performance"
I also turned VSYNC to OFF.
I applied all those changes and closed my nvidia settings.

This program lets me set the NVIDIA graphic profiles for each program on my computer.
The superposition benchmark has no profile.
SO I selected GRAND THEFT AUTO 5.
And ADDED the superposition.exe to the GRAND THEFT AUTO 5 profile, then applied the changes.
Now my superposition gets a score of 8185. (i did have my nvidia graphic settings on highest before tho, they are set to mostly application controlled or default(low))
i might set the nvidia graphic settings to highest again and see if its still a high score, if it is, I will upload a video and put a link here.




I am trying out different profiles for TANE I haven't tried GTA5 profile for tane.. Hoping they like eachother.

I was able to get a HIGHER superposition score when I turned nvidia settings to all high or quality like this:

I used this superposition preset

After adding superposition.exe to the nvidia inspector profile for GrandTheftAuto5, I got this score, even with the high quality settings above.

I now match what I should have with 2 sli'd 1080's in superposition. Nvidia dosen't have a profile for superposition, go figure.
I have also noticed a bit improvement in TANE when I delete the tane profile and add TANE to the GTA5 profile.

So what, what about TANE?

Well, if I take this same system after all those tests, and keep the graphic settings at high like I show.
And I set TANEs graphic settings all to highest they will go with my screen resolution at 2560x1440 with a 120hz refresh I can get this:
Lowest frame rate in kickstarter country with the NKP train (session) running at half throttle, is about 28fps. Remember, all the graphic settings are the highest quality the game and the 2-1080 cards can make.

Don't forget I deleted the default profile 'Trainz: A New Era' in Nvidia inspector. I then added TANE.exe to the GrandTheftAuto5 Nvidia Inspector profile.
If you have an nvidia card you could try that, but make sure you save all your profiles first so you can restore them. (or you will need to clean with ddu and reinstall gpu drivers, if you want the default tane profile back)

CLOCK LOCK your GPU!

To do this we need to install and use MSI afterburner.

Open afterburner and make sure it its window is selected, and press CTRL-F
This brings up the voltage/frequency menu.
Choose the point on the very right side but make sure to not move it.
Once you clicked the point, press L
Click on the main msi afterburner window, and press the check mark button, this sets the clocks to a locked voltage and frequency.

I don't think any manufacturer has gotten ECO, or power saving right, it ALWAYS ends up screwing the performance up.
And they never make it easy to turn their eco crap off because they get money to force this crap on people.

The benefit to clock locking your video card is that its yet another variable you can eliminate in your system.
I am going to upload another SUPERPOSITION benchmark with my clocks and voltages locked to show it improves the results by a bit.
With the superposition bench, the locked clocks isn't so important, but with other programs that have times when the gpu downclocks from lack of use, that causes problems with the program.

The only risk with clock locking your gpu is it will generate more heat. This is NOT overclocking (unless you already overclock)
This just forces your gpu to have its voltage and clock to remain STEADY.
Monitor your gpu temps if you do this. GPU's should stay under 165 degrees F, if you are that hot or hotter, then you must have a laptop or not enough fans, or your room is too hot(or you need to re-seat your gpu heatsink/paste.

Clocklocked superposition benchmark. The score is a bit lower, because I doubled the video recording bitrate, it was too low for my resolution and framerate.

I did some calculations and it seems my recording bit rate will never be high enough to record 120fps at 2560x1440.
That results in a bit rate of over 130Mbps, which is the max the Nvenc encoder can do.
So, I am going to start frame capping my videos to 60fps. Then I can set bitrate of 70Mbps.
Youtube dosen't encode your videos well when you have too little bitrate for the resolution and frame rate.

Recording 120FPS 2160x1440 is BAD even with a gtx1080.

120fps at 2560x1440 = a max bitrate of about 136Mbps.

The most my gtx1080 can record at is 130Mbps (at least thats the max the setting can go)


So if I set my recorder to cap the framerate at 60fps then I can record with about 70Mbits/sec with no loss in visual quality.

I found this to be true due to this proof:
A recording I did at 120fps at 2560x1440 for 15 minutes resulted in a 2.3 Gigabyte file.
A recording I did at 60fps at 2560x1440 for 15 minutes resulted in a 5.2 Gigabyte file.

So my file got 2x bigger when I lowered the framerate AND bitrate.
Make sense? No, unless you consider that frames are being dropped, and SO much that it results in a lower quality file due to missing frames.
This is why some of my youtube HD videos show 48p instead of 120p or 60p. That means the framereate in the file at some point dropped to 48fps.

It should ALWAYS show 60p (or what ever frame rate you record in, it you record 50fps then it should show 50p)
It it shows less, your video card cannot handle the recording framerate you have selected.

I am now redoing ALL my benchmarks with the corrected settings.

Looks like my overloaded bitrate was causing a hit in my scores.
All videos will have 60p now. And will not have dropped frames giving the video a jerky or stuttering look.
