FRAPS vs. Bandicam

dricketts

Trainz Luvr since 2004
I thought I would start a discussion of the pros and cons of each. I've only used FRAPS so I'd love to hear more about bandicam.

Well, I have no idea what Bandicam is - I've only ever used FRAPs myself, so I presume it's something similar. I've found FRAPs to be very useful for taking screenshots, but I've never used it for recording video footage (mostly because I'm using the freeware 'trial' version).

The drawback with this is screenshots are saved as uncompressed .BMP format (the paid version you can also save in .JPG and .PNG formats), which can take up an enormous amount of hard disk space - especially if you're like me and take a lot of screenshots in games (I don't use it with Trainz though - as Trainz's native screenshot function is good enough). Video recording with the freeware version of FRAPs is also limited to 30 seconds of footage each time and the videos are watermarked with FRAPs's website address as well.

As I've said, I don't have any experience recording video with FRAPs, nor have I used that other program, so I'm not really able to answer your queries about it I'm sorry.

Sorry I should have posted the link.

I like FRAPS for screenshots and own the payware version but the video still has to be converted/compressed for most sites like youtube. If I understand correctly it looks as if bandicam might be more versatile as for the video file types you can record with.

I'd think that one could always use a video editor like Avidemux to crop off the top of the video with the FRAPS watermark.

I like a lot bandicam. ITs free (if you purchase the full version you can remove the watermark). The con; the FPS goes down. Check this video, i have made it with bandicam

But i dont know why the game lags, my PC is not the best but it can run trainz without any lag

Greetings

PD IF SOMEONE IS GOING TO ASK WHY I DONT HAVE MY TRS2009 REGISTERED IS CAUSE A FRIEND LEFT IT TO ME, SO IF I HAVE MONEY I WILL PURCHASE IT, I PURCHASED TRS2004 SOME YEARS AGO AND I WILL PURCHASE THAT TRAINZ, SORRY FOR WRITING WITH CAPS BUT IS FOR READ THAT WITHOUT ASKING, OK?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english

I prefer bandicam to FRAPS mostly because bandicam allows up to ten minutes of recording with the free version. It also doesn't lag my computer as much as the 30 seconds of FRAPS recording does.

From what I've heard, that's a problem that affects video recording in FRAPs too. Basically it happens if the drive you're recording the file to is the same drive as the game/program you're recording from (say, Trainz) is also installed on - because the hard drive is having to read and write to the same drive at once, it's doing more work - hence the skipped frames. The only way to avoid this from what I understand is if you have a second hard drive installed on your system, to record the video to that and it should fix the problem.

What about recording the video to a USB 2.0 external hard drive? Does anyone know if that would work?
