I'm planning an Amtrak round trip from Seattle to Portland for Feb. Looks like there are two options the Coast Starlight and Amtrak Cascades. I've never made this trip before.

What is the difference between the two? Specifically services, amenities, and consist. I've searched the web but haven't found a lot of information available. Any links or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Though I haven't taken either train, I know some basics.

The Coast Starlight only makes 1 trip per day, southbound in the morning, northbound in the evening. The Amtrak Cascades makes 4 trips per day.

Coast Starlight uses SuperLiners so you get dining cars, sleepers, etc. Amtrak Cascades uses Talgo cars. They do have a Bistro car which features food and beverages and Business Class (priority boarding, wider seats).

Amtrak Cascades is about 30 minutes faster than the Starlight.
