Folder will not go away?!?!?

StorkNest

Stop that, its just silly
I commit some content into TS2009 and everything goes fine except a folder for one item remains in the editing folder. Had this happen before a few times when some program is open and accessed a folder, I always close the program and delete the folder with no problem.

Except this time the folder will not disappear. I check folder Properties and for some reason it got checked Read-Only. I uncheck it, hit Apply then OK, delete the folder...

And it still will not leave. Checking Properties shows Read-Only is checked again. I cannot Rename it either.

It cannot be Vista or CM2 because I have experienced this and never had a problem getting rid of the folder. But for some reason this one will not stop marking itself Read-Only. Any thoughts?

Hi Storknest
Please try deleting the folder after closing CM2 down. In some cases, CM2/CMP will keep 'control' of the folder until closed down. A database rebuild will often remove the folder as well.

Zec, tried that but I still get told some program is using the folder.
Now it also happens outside the Trainz install. Made a couple of folders elsewhere for something and now I cannot delete or rename them.
Here I go trying to figure out what's running under Vista again.:o

How to unlock folders.

:) Do a google search for the program called Unlocker. It is a very small program that will unlock denied folders. It is very simple to use or Malware Bytes has a built in tool to help you delete problemed folders and it is free to download.

After running checks for Spyware and Viruses then hours wading through Vista stuff, I discovered that for some unknown reason I had 2 instances of PSP7 running. Once closed down folders finctioned as normal. Noting showed these 2 PSP programs running except Task Manager and I almost missed them there, they were under Processes but not Applications, no windows were open. Bad enough that my PSP7 for some unknown reason occassionaly save .TMP files and I don't have Autosave running.
Thanks.

One question...

 You never stated whether or not the item shows up in-game...

If it shows in game, forget about the editing folder.

Your never directed to the editing folder. Whatever it does doesn't concern you....your sent to the asset folder inside the editing folder when Editing in Explorer, then when you finish your work in that folder, you close it.

I have also noticed content in the editing folder that was committed to read-only, but it shows in-game.

I try not to let that bother me now:hehe:

The item showed up in-game, but I have to respectfully disagree about the folder.
If I open an asset called Trailer once then commit and it leaves behind a folder named Trailer, next time I open Trailer it will not open to that folder, it will create a editxxxxxx folder, commit again, now there's two folders left. Open Trailer agin then commit now there's three.
Since I am working on making some TS2009 items, I have opened the same content a few times to make changes and I don't need all those folders sitting around!:D

Your missing the point...

 StorkNest, how do you know there are empty folders in the edit folder?

How did you find this out?

Once I had something Open for Edit, went to the folder and moticed in the left pane I could see a folder named for something that was committed. Checked the folder and it was empty. Since then, I have discovered that if you are running some programs that accessed something in a folder that was Open for Edit, if you commit while the program is still running, the item commits but the folder doesn't go away because the program is holding it. Sometimes I get this with PSP 7 or some Pev's tools.
I Open say a Shark.
I use PM2IM to change the mesh.
With PM2IM still running, I commit but the folder remains because PM2IM is still considered to be using it.

You peeked...

 In this case, nothing was damaged. I ran this course & found that if I wanted to go into the actual edit folder, something the program did not direct me to do & delete empty folders, I could do that to hearts content.

Now I wait until the end of my work in CMv2, go into the open for edit tab & commit & then into the game. I leave the other stuff alone.
