fixed track

G'day 1Partsman,

After 'consulting' with my laptop, I was unable to find the original images of the yard that I had made but I was able to make a couple of new ones for you whilst I was there. Firstly, a view of the yard from one end...

...and then the view from the other end. There is a significant performance hit here but I believe it is due to the large number of very high polygon points that are in use...

Now

You can edit your own posts and make changes

OK now if you put that same line in between
a photo will show up.

Or just simply hit the cheesy mountain symbol, and OK the process at the extreme top bar of your PC screen, and hit the same button again, and press "Ctrl V" it will insert into the page text.

The a/A square is also a great tool in the upper L corner

The ladders look great...if you change the straight tracks, to a better track like MP Wood, or something that matches the fixed track, it will look even better...send a close up of the fixed tracks ties and rails so I can see it.

Is that Andi06 switches ? Do they work as great as they look ?

Super photo below...looks great

Super Switch's

Now...can you tell us all about how those turnouts are working for you, set up and performance wise...and where to get them...you have, even me wanting fixed track now !

hi again..

ok, to try and remember the questions....I only used 10m, 25m, and 50m straight track by "prjindigo" and the turnouts were by "Spock2004" #8 left and right...I used all fixed track for everything, therefore explaining the 'none match', however because it looked the same as 1 track US Wood, and because I felt time was an issue, I used the US Wood in the middle to connect it all together so I did not have to try and fit it all together....as far as testing it, I just built it and tried all day to post it, so tonight and probably tomorrow I will do some testing with it and see what happens....also, as I built it, I found all the FT track and switches had direction, so unless I made a mistake somewhere, everything is my 'yard' goes the same way....

well thanks again for the help, I will update this later when I give it all a try....

G'day 1Partsman,

That's much better, now, we can all see "what you're getting at!". Firstly, if prjindigo has done the right thing and made his fixed track sections with the "useadjoiningtrack" tag set to "1", it should be possible to match the texture to any track to which the fixed track sections are joined, so long as you attach a piece of 'spline' track to a section of fixed track BEFORE it is attached to anything else. ALL of the fixed track used in my route is just the standard stuff that comes built in with TRS 2004. In fact, it isn't easy to see from the images but the actual track used here is broad gauge (to 5' 3" between the rails) and the "useadjoiningtrack" tag even changed the mesh to acommodate this.

As to getting the track to match the points, by rights, Spock2004 should have supplied matching spline track for that purpose - used as above, everything should match up in the end.

The only other problem that I can see with the way you have done things there, John, is with the use of the fixed track sections used between the actual leads of the points themselves. If you look carefully at the distance between the tracks in the two images (yours and mine), you will note that my tracks are much closer together, which more closely replicates prototype practice. The yard you have built there would occupy nearly half as much width again as would an identical one of mine, which means that, were you creating a yard based on an actual location, that your method would not allow the yard to fit in the actual area that it does in the real world. The reason for this is that the 'extra' bits of track between the points has 'distrurbed' the intended geometry of the points and forced them to move the adjoining roads further apart than they should be. It ought to be possible (again if Spock2004 has done the right thing) to simply place the points end to end to overcome this and maintain the geometry as it was intended...
