Fixed the Side-by-side errors finally!

I finally did it. This was a very simple security update to the VC redistributables.

Here’s an article on the problem which I could never find before. The earlier information always had some details on checking the pointers and editing the registry, etc. which made the process too difficult and didn’t always work. According to this article, the broken version is listed in the cryptic error message and the article points it out.

I then downloaded the VCRedist updates directly from Microsoft here:

I installed both the 64-bit and 32-bit just to ensure everything was updated.

At one point I even did a ‘fresh’ install of Trainz thinking that this was causing the problem, but it did not do anything other than annoy me by taking up a full day with the patching.

Thanks for that John,

That bl-----dy side by side error has been bugging me for some time. I have even done a reinstall of windows 7 to try and get rid of it. Let's hope this fixes it.

The Side-by-side error is caused by conflicts with the run-time libraries and the C++ version installed by VC2008.

Even though this pertains to Office, this can happen with any program.

You will see the errors listed in the Event Viewer.

@ Bill - I did the same more than once with Win 7 and Windows 8.

Hi CCrr,

After a crash you get this report after a reboot. I usually reboot in safe mode and go to event viewer reports.

Cheers,
Bill
