Given the choice of non-steam power, what is your fave loco?

Mine is hard to choose between the classic Deltic (aka Class 55):

Or the Virgin Voyager / Super Voyager Pendolino (aka Class 221 and Class 390):

I do however like some of the US diesels.......but I can't name any particular one I like....

Just reading up about the prototype of the English Electric Deltic, it's fascinating. More info here.

English Electric apparently intended to export the Deltic to the US, and that is the main reasoning behind the colourscheme in the top picture. Hmm...now if that had happened, what would the current US diesel situation be?

For UK stuff, I would have to agree with the Deltic.

Favorite US stuff, EMD BL2, GE U30C, and anything ALCo, especially the RS3, RS3M and RS11.

I like the old Alcos such as the RS1, RS2 and RS3.

The New Haven Railroad had some interesting electrics. There were the E-44s, Little Joes, and FL9s.

For UK equipment I really like the Pendolino Class 390. It would be nice to see those run over here on the Northeast Corridor. The old Deltic Class 55 would have been a neat addition to the US diesel population. I don't know why they were never imported. Probably though because GM and GE put up a lobby against the import of the locomotives due to their almost exclusive market share in the Americas and Canada.

I don't really have a favourite, but I'm interested in most of the older Australian locomotives, particularly South Australian.

Ive seen few locos i dont like, but a few stand out as definite favorites.
For UK i would most definitely say the Class 43 HST in its original configuration with a Paxman Valenta 12RP200L Prime mover, a Napier turbocharger and Marston cooling fans! A absolutely amazing sound, whether leaving the station or flying by at speed, the high pitched scream of a HST accelerating out of Paddington is something that i will never forget, sadly the days of this amazing sound is quickly drawing to a close, if your in the UK or visiting make sure to take a ride on Grand Central trains before its too late.
Heres a shot of mine

Hard question to answer

I like the BR class 20 but i have never seen one in real life (heard one though). Also travelling on the br class 142 is a bit unpleasent (shake and rattle) yet the way it sounds and looks i realy like it. Cool vids too!!!
