GONE AND FORGOTTEN
My Brother's Father-in-Law , Thomas Killian worked for Tamper in West Columbia, South Carolina until his retirement. Some years later Thomas passed away due to cancer. This man was like an adopted Grand Father to me and he is the very first person to take me to watch trains at the CSX Cayce yard in Cayce, SC. I was 14 then. Now I'm 41 and I still drive by Tamper, and rail fan at the Cayce yard. This thread is dedicated to Mr. Thomas Killian who built alot of the machines that keep the worlds railways safe. I will forever miss him. As a side note, Fairmont Tamper is approximately 10 minutes from my house.

OVERHEAD VIEW-West Columbia, SC Facility
Tamper Corp was originally founded in Canada in 1934. In 1966 the company was moved and headquartered in West Columbia,SC . Tampers strength is in a complete line of automated tamping equipment for lifting,leveling,lining, and tamping track and is a true pioneer in the development of high speed computer controlled tamping equipment. In 1992 Harsco Rail acquired Tamper combining it Fairmont Railway motors forming the present Fairmont Tamper, one the largest suppliers of railroad track maintenance equipment.

GO-4S TRAC GOPHER UNDERCUTTER
The Fairmont Tamper model GO-4S TRAC GOPHER UNDERCUTTER is a powerful high production track undercutter that mechanizes reballasting of trackage and improves track drainage. The undercutter bar utilizes hardened steel cutting teeth to efficiently cut it's way underneath the track where it removes the fouled ballast from underneath the track and deposits the spoil into the trench,where the digging wheel carries it to the spoil conveyors for disposal.

SPIKE RECLAIMER
The Fairmont Tamper SPIKE RECLAIMER is used to in tie and steel gangs to magnetically recover spikes from the left, right, and both rails. The spikes are fed through a patented continuous tumbler cleaner onto a conveyor belt where the operator picks out the reusable spikes and the balance run off the conveyor into kegs.

SST SPIKE SUPPLY TRAILER
The Fairmont Tamper SST SPIKE SUPPLY TRAILER is new technology for bulk handling of spikes, for the high speed production spikers. The machine provides a controlled flow of spikes to storage trays on the spiking machine. To discharge the spikes the tub is tilted and rotated slowly until spikes flow onto the conveyor. The conveyor carries spikes to a diverter chute mounted on the spiking machine where they are directed to spike trays on either or both sides of the machine.
