You need a FTP program to upload items or if your free web site has an inbuild program/upload or whatever manager, use that. There you can possibly upload each file seperate on to your web site's space.

I just looked at Freewebs.com, you have a File Manager there with which you upload your pics, content, d/loads etc. but you also have to make sure once your content is uploaded to proper reference these in the links on your web pages.

Easiest is, you create different folders on your web site, say pic for pictures, dloads for downloads and so on, so you know where your stuff is. Use these links to reference your content to display or for downloads.

Place a dummy or empty index html page into each folder except where your start up (real index.htm file is) so no one can access these folders through the folders name in the address bar.

After all this everything should work right for you.

That needs a bit of explaining to me (in simple words - please!). But doesn't Freewebs only have a limited amount of space?

You will always have space limitations on a free website service. But you don't need to have all your files on the same host. If you use a file-hosting service you could just have on your site thumbnails and links to the actual files hosted elsewhere. Check out Ripway, for example;

If you type in a URL and add what you think is a folder name like:
xxx.xxxx.com/images

you can access all content in this folder if you do not have a web page called images.htm or index.htm in it. By placing a dummy web page called index.htm, this can be blank or you can have your own text on it (like, forbidden to look or such), this web page gets called up when accessing such folder.

You still link your images from this folder but now no one can access it remote. Handy for your private places on your web site. Or any folder on your web site which you ONLY want to access from with a web page reference.

I hope this makes it a bit clearer.
