When I checked the .exe file was missing wasn't in scrap bin or anywhere else I could find it
Anyone else had this happen?

That sounds like something an anti-virus (AV) program might do where they hide the exe so you can't run it. But I've only seen this happen after a download of a program and the AV decided it didn't like it.

So, if you have an AV program you might research what it does with such files.

Trainz was excluded in AV
Scanned entire PC for the .exe file which I could not find but found all other program .exe files
Ended up reinstalling now working ok
Still no idea what happened

Had the same AV for the past 5 yrs without any problems
Virus scanners and malware scanners get updated every day with new definitions. This was likely cause by that day's update flagging the file as dangerous by mistake. There should be a log but I have no idea where to find it. I haven't used Norton's since Win98.

Only used nortons once and it brought my system to it knees..... so got rid of it......
Have used Vipre for about 10 years or so.... Never had a problem with it. Has saved my system a couple of times. So I am Happy.

Norton's is OK software especially for the average home user but it can be a bit expensive once the free trial period runs out. It does tend to be a bit of a back seat driver but some people are extremely paranoid and feel better having a big brand AV software running on their PC.

We have Trend Micro, it covers our PCs, laptops, tablets and phones (Windows, Android, Mac). It pretty good at advising of risks, and gets bonus marks for suggesting some phone calls are spam.
We always look for the special offers, and once purchased it can be activated later

Just a comment, CrowdStrike, an antimalware company that many banks, airlines etc use took down an estimated 8.5 million Windows machines. Apple doesn't even allow antivirus software such deep access as windows does not that I'd recommend Apple for a secure system.

These days I think you are better off without antivirus software and just depend on Windows built in tools.

Cheerio John
