Excited couplings

Hi all,

Not sure if others are experiencing this, though it may well be related to the JAG system by Kessica which I posted about in a previous thread, though that was related to tail lamps.

I have a couple of wagons where the couplings either don't couple or, if they do, they don't uncouple and instead stay fully... extended, is probably the best word to use. Is this a known problem with a script or is it something to do with the wagons config? The wagon in question here is <kuid2:86627:100629:3> 15ft 3 plank blank wood frame early detailed JAG.

Have you talked with Paul Cass about the new replacement for ACSLib?
No but these were created for TANE and very well tested so I suspect the scripting has changed since then.

Are there any details available on the replacement? The impact will be very large as a lot of rolling stock uses JAG much of it reskins were the reskinner isn't active anymore.

Contact Paul he can explain things better than I can. Yes, a lot has changed since T:ANE and I really understand the impact because that's occurring with lots of Andi06's rolling stock causing quite a mess as you can imagine.

I'm completely out of my depth when it comes to scripting, I don't have a scooby but is WagonX the new go to for script handling etc.? Or is that something completely different? As you say, a lot of wagons use JAG and I've noticed other issues (my other thread deals with tail lamps) so as noted a lot of stock will be impacted.

Since JohnC has mentioned me a couple of times here is my 2 cents:

WagonX still uses ACSLib although the author did mention once that they might replace ACSLib for WagonX purposes. I've used WagonX extensively as a replacement for Superscript in some of Andi Smith's carriages and autocoaches. As part of that repair I created my own ACSLib compliant mesh library. The couplers and hoses often don't work correctly with other non Andi Smith vehicles. Neither did the originals.

WagonX also does tail lamps. And practically anything else that has properties. Basically anything mentioned in a config such as textures, meshes, animation, smoke, etc.

You don't need to know any scripting to use WagonX/LocoWagonX, however developing the extensions container for a config can be a bear I usually do a lot of copying and pasting, and then adapt the pasted version.

Dundun92, the author of WagonX, has documentation for WagonX and LocoWagonX here. I also wrote some documentation for WagonX on the Trainz WiKi but it badly needs updating. My intention is to provide lots of examples, mostly drawn from the repairs I have done. There are lots of options I have yet to try.

TBH, I know almost nothing about the JAG library but it does seem to use its own version of ACSLib. If it is now unsupported then I'd be reluctant to use it. It does appear to be free of errors and obsolete functions in TRS22.

JAG does more than just wagon couplings so I doubt wagonX could be a direct replacement. It's nice to know JAG is free of errors and obsolete functions in TS22.

Thanks John

Yes, I’ve experienced this problem on and off for years. At first I thought it was a faulty model, but then it seemed to resolve itself (so not the models own fault) only to come back some while later. I’ve had a brief episode recently that resolved itself (a bit like the annual cold and flu season). I’m suspecting it may be due to odd ‘rogue’ assets causing a clash. I had an extreme case where I inadvertently installed a version of ACSlib (v.20) that doesn’t officially exist (from a TTTE sourc). Deleting that library allowed the system to fall back to the official version (v.14) and everything started working again. But it was a extreme lesson in unwanted asset entanglement.
