Exactly what can be imported and works in TRS 09?

Routelayer Ordinaire...
Hi All,

I hope this has not been asked but I wanted to clear this up as it's been on my mind.

For TRS 09 and from what I understand, we can import routes from all prior versions of trainz correct? What about rolling stock, scenery items and locomotives? Trainz rules? Config.txt files? etc...I would like to exactly know what cannot be imported and if there are some objects that will not work properly without configuration and what not. One big reason I would consider purchasing '09 is to be able to run everything that has ever been made in trainz without a problem. For example, I use 04 but I cannot use many objects made in 06 that I would like to use (like bnsf50's/maddy25's sp? crossings). Since I'm used to the '04 tag format, will '09 use it's own format or will it accept varying formats of the same tag (i.e. the bogey tag)

I am also assuming that it is using a Content Manager type program. Some of us stubborn '04 users have had major issues with this in '06. Can anyone tell me if this has been improved and it's reliability?

I will not purchase this program unless I know exactly what it can and cannot do and I think many trainzers feel the same way. Any clear input is appreciated!

The short answer is that pretty much everything can be imported. We've worked very hard on backwards compatibility and most content will work fine.

That said, with improved error checking, there will be a number of items that will show warnings or errors. In most cases these items will actually work without problems. The errors were generally also present in older builds, but the errors weren't reported.

We will be releasing tutorials to show the best way to import content from your local or downloads folder over the next few weeks.

Hello young Gisa.....

As an avid TRS2004 user, I can assure you that the CMP on TS2009 is excellent and way better than TRS2006 was. However, you must remember that this TS2009 is a beta trial version, and subsequently the community is testing it daily to find bugs and other anomolies. I have downloaded European locomotives - Italian and Spanish - into my TS2009 without much fuss, I had to repair the config.txts to a couple of them, but nothing serious to prevent them from operating properly. So the CMP is fairly reliable at present, although it still needs to be tweaked and fine tuned before the general release, but nobody can expect it to work without any hitches at the moment, we couldn't call it a beta version then, could we?? :hehe:

Thank you Tony and young Exrailwayman for your kind replies. :D

Might I suggest you make a list of objects that cannot be imported just to help avoid the headache? Perhaps it would help avoid frustration and lure more of us stubborn '04ers in. As well, a handy tutorial for the new CM would be useful (I'm sure you've thought of this). I found the first CM was really difficult, unreliable and froze up a lot.

Just my two cents ^^
