Ever Wanted to Drive A steam Locomotive..............

sterrett

Remember the Withered Arm
The British Transport Commission published a Handbook For Steam Locomotive Drivers and Firemen in 1957. The "Internet Archive" has patiently scanned it and you can either browse all 100 pages on line, or download it as a "pdf" file or as an "Epub" file for ereaders that support that file type.

I have found the book fascinating as it shows there was far, far more to the task of driving or firing a locomotive than most of us will ever have realised!

Enjoy!

If you're interested in Steam (or Diesel) locomotive drivers' experiences, as well as a wealth of British photographs and memorabilia, then check out David Hey's site:

http://www.davidheyscollection.com/

The site may be slow to load because of the high quality images, but it's worth the wait - at least, I found it so!

Very interesting find, that will cater for many hours of concentrated reading.

Nice high scan quality too, if I may say so, thanks for the tip.

Greetings from sunny Amsterdam,

I took a quick look at it and it seems to be very interesting and chock full of info. Thanks for the link.
