Enough of the junction sound

There has got to be a way to stop the sound a train makes when crossing a junction. It's not the right sound at all, and it has been annoying a lot of us for a long time.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change or eliminate the sound?

I would also like to change the sound the train makes over normal track.
I have turned off the "clickety-clack" sound, but would like to be able to install my own sounds instead.

This should apply to all versions TS2006 and later.

i hope someone answers you. i do have to ask how you turned off the clickey clack sounds.
thanx

To turn off the railjoint sound put a line in your Trainzoptions.txt file like this
-disablerailjointsound
Use the dash in front of the statment and no spaces between words.

I tried adding "-disablejunctionsound", but it had no effect.
I have looked in the other config files and found nothing for sound.
I have also checked the individual content (locos, rolling stock) files but there is nothing for sound there either.

I'll try posting in TrainzDev.

You could play a RR sound effects CD, or make up a custom scripted cassete tape recording, or get the MRC Sound Station 312, or play the Yackety Yack RR radio sound files, to cover up the lame Auran sound effects.

That would take some doing, to get it synched with the trains.
Actually, what I would like to do is disable all except engine sounds and maybe the light rolling sound the cars make going over track when the clickety-clack is disabled.

I don't need birds chirping, the buzz of the electric plant, or any of that industry noise. But I do want realistic track and train noises.
In addition to what sounds we hear, we should be able to regulate the sound level for each kind of sound; engine, track, crossing bells, environmental, etc. Trainz is the only game I own that doesn't have sound controls on the main setup panel.

When I've been playing Trainz for a long time, then go out to watch real trains, I expect to hear the same junction sounds when the trains go through.
It's like I'm waiting for the sound, then happy that it doesn't come:hehe:

Hi - I only have TRS2004 at present and I don't think the disablerailjointsound is enabled in that version. I think it was added to a later version on special request from the guys on the forum.

That being the case, the same thing would apply to the junction sound, i.e. it would need an upgraded version of the native code.

In '04 the junction sound seems ok to me except that it is delayed. I mean, that when a single loco drives over the junction the sound only starts after the vehicle has reached the centre point and carries on after the wheels have left the junction. This is not noticable when a train has a few vehicles in it.

Hi,
I place a a small length of RTS track in the layout,
( RTS = www.trainzro.com ). This effectively replaces the default track sounds and that obtrusive junction sound over the whole layout.

Would agree that the junction sound used since TC is really horrible. Who at Auran ever thought that was in any way realistic? A loud metallic clang and bang. The rumbling junction junction sound in TRS2004 was more realistic. Have DL'd the Romanian track and will give that a go too.

I've installed all of the RTS track, tunnel and bridges.
They look and sound great!
Now, you're telling me that if I place just one section of the RTS track on my route, that all of the sounds will change to the RTS sounds?
I would have already tried it out on my route, but I am doing a backup now, and cannot run Trainz until it's done.

These RTS tracks look absolutely fantastic, and absolutely surpasses MP, VMD, & Greenery tracks by far !

It is a shame that one has to go to a 3rd party site, as this fantastic set of tracks are not available on the DLS.

And if I did a route in this track, and the website went off the air, no one would be able to aquire the track.

I agree! His route creation is super as well.

I'm going to give the track a try as well. The dark track looks particularly good around yards and terminals.

Totally agree. I wonder if he could the creator might be persuaded to upload to the DLS so that if a route builder uses the track, it is readily available to the downloader?

Download the track and save the .cdp files to your hard drive. Then, if the site ever goes "off the ethernet" you can upload them to DLS, assuming that the creator would no longer care about property of the files.

The VERY Old switches

When I was a kid, that sound wasn't too far off some of the very old switches that were manually turned. It made it kind of scary actually because it almost sounded like the track was breaking apart. The track was nearly 100 years old and was being phased out of service so getting new switches wasn't in the rail companies best interest. It was B & O out of Holyoke MA. Holyoke in the early 60's was one of the worlds largest paper manufacturing cities. a lot of rails and a lot of heavy paper rolls. there isn't much left to the yards in Holyoke today but I do remember that noisy creepy sound of the switch-men throwing a switch. I haven't been there in years but I assume that the electric motors now are the rule and don't make that noisy sound anymore.
