Engines Wishlist for Jointed Rail.

This thread derailed like that one train in California in 1989..... Let's get back on track, no pun intended.

I would like to see a newly repainted UP Dash-9.

(Not my picture, but when I cropped off the stuff that hinted it was a screenshot on my phone, it may have cut off the info at the bottom to balance. I'm pretty sure this pic is from railpictures.net)

This just happens to be a rare Dash-9! Only a handful are painted in the flag scheme, and even less still have their red frame stripe!

It's never made sense to me that Amtrak is allowed to use red reflective tape when every other railroad can only use white or yellow. It would be really nice if UP could still have the red frame stripes, because they make a big difference.

Sorry judahGrice, I don't know that much about rare diesels. I'm more into steamies. Also, the flag scheme, 90% of the diesels that come through Brownwood have it. So it's not rare in Texas.

Yes. I can agree with you that. Although we get lots of standard paint Dash-9s and AC44s here, for rock train service. Once in a while a flag paint Dash-9 shows up. Adam, I way agree with you on that! The red frame stripes make a huge difference! In my opinion, I think a red reflective stripe, would be way more visible than a yellow or white one at night. As for Amtrak, it has to do with the FRA saying that red frame stripes are ok on passenger exclusive rolling stock/locos. That is why the UP business fleet/E9s have it. I'm not sure why the DD40 doesn't still have it, since it is currently a passenger only unit. Or the one one display at Jenks in Arkansas, 6938, which never moves. Strange.

I would also love to see ATSF Dash-9s. I'd buy them in a snap, just like I have with every other Dash-9 they made, except for CNW which is the last on my list...

I would buy a UP dash 9 with the flag on it in a heart beat! :udrool:

I was looking up trains for sale a while back, there's a guy in Pennsylvania that's trying to sell a original Baldwin 4-4-2 wood boiler, wood burning,1823, tank, Camelback steam locomotive. The firebox is in good shape, hardly any rust on the whole engine. He has pics of it all steamed up. He's asking less than a grand for the whole thing. Anyone got $500?

Are you sure it isn't asking $500K ($500,000)? Otherwise, it's not an actual locomotive, more like an 1/8th scale live steamer.

I quadruple checked. He stood next to it. It's got 4 foot diameter drive wheels. It's an actual steamie. He's asking for around $600. I was shocked. He's selling it for less than it's worth as scrap!!
