JR - I've got a suggestion that I'm sure somewhere there would appreciate (namely, Kevin).
In 1994, Conrail had planned to buy 30 more SD60Is. However, they wanted to test AC technology, so they changed the order to 4 SD70MAC-Is and 26 GP60M-Is (to keep total costs equal to what was allocated). They also ordered 4 AC440CWs from GE. However, they tested EMD's SD80MAC shortly after placing these orders, and decided to cancel all of the above and go for 28 SD80MACs. Now supposedly, these 28 became 21 bought & 9 leased (not sure if the 2 demos were bought or leased?) - neither here nor there though - in the end, Conrail got 30 SD80MACs.
So, I was thinking, that should you guys resurrect the GP60M (I thought I heard rumblings about ya'll wanting to rebuild the TS12 built-in model), a Conrail Quality paint scheme would be phenomenal! And, since Athearn has already produced a model of it, I suspect reference photos for general modeling would be easy to come by. Now, no one knows what numbers these GP60Ms/GP60Is would have held (another interesting piece - would they have been M or I models? Seems unclear...), but common consensus around those close to Big Blue is that they were going to be numbered directly behind the GP40-2s. I've also seen unsupported claims that Conrail had ordered 8 GP60Bs as well - this seems less clear and less likely to have occurred, but if you're going to make a GP60M/I, why not a GP60B as well?!
As for the AC440CW, you gents already have a model of that, so perhaps a skin of it would be relatively easy to come up with? I know you offered a CSX "heritage" SD70ACe & ES44AC a while back (thankfully I bought it when it was available) - they've got the right idea, but any Conrail AC unit needs a white bib! No known number series for these, but based on order dates & planned delivery dates, these would have been some of the first (if not the first) AC440CWs built.
So, Conrail Quality GP60Is, GP60Bs, and AC440CWs - if they come, I've got cash monies waiting!!
I appreciate your attention to detail and accuracy, but I do love the idea of what-if/fantasy paint schemes! I hope to see more along the lines of the WM SD70ACe and D&H C39-8 - I'll buy that stuff right up!
