Edit Portal Problem....

smash

Whos on First?
I downloaded jrfolco's wonderful route WM & B&O Mega Route Native Mode.:) I have had the earlier version and loved it. I decided to give the updated version a spin. Everyting looks great.
The only problem so far is the portals. I can not edit them in the sessions. I had to edit them in the route. Which when I saved it caused me to save a new version of the route. This is not what I wanted. I thought I remembered reading about this before, but could not find anything about it on the forum.
Does anybody remember this problem and what the soultion may be.

I am using TS 12 with all the latest service packs.

Thanks for your help,
Kenny

Industry cannot be accessed when route layer is locked

Hi Kenny - A portal is an industry. If the route layer is locked then you can't change its properties. Moving the portals to another route layer allows you to keep the portals and other industries unlocked so that they can be edited when the session layer is selected.

If you save a route that has a user kuid other than your own then the game forces you to save a new route and session with your own kuid. If the route is for you own use only then use the newly saved route.

Other sessions for the downloaded route can be "adopted" by your new route. To do this, look up the kuid of your new route in Content Manager. Then edit an "orphan" session in explorer, open the config file and change the map-kuid tag value to match your new route. You must also change the map kuid in the kuid-table of the session config file. It is usually the first entry in the kuid-table.

Once you have all the sessions adopted you can save the original route to a cdp file (using Content manager) and store it away from the game, then delete the original route.

Hope this helps

Trevor Thanks for the reply.
The route is not locked.

Thanks for the info But I have been doing this for years, That way I can edit a route the I way I like but still keep the sessions.:)

I have been able to answer my own question, somewhat. First I used ericmp wonderful Anywhere Ohio route. I created a session.(which I cannot edit the portals in a session on either) Then I added the three major portal in Trainz.
Auran's basic portal kuid 30501:22006
Portal basic HP Kuid2:46142:9000:1
Re-rail portal Kuid2:116387:5:1
I made sure the portals were saved the route layer then saved the route and session. I got completely out of trainz. I opened CMP. The route and session were now saved with my kuid.(which I knew it would do when I saved them) So I opened the route and session and saved them to my desktop. I then deleted the Anywhere Ohio route and session from CMP. I then chaned the route kuid and the session kuid to ericmp's. I imported the modified route and session back in CMP and commited.
When I went back into the session in trainz, I could not edit the auran or the HP portal. But the re-rail portal I could.

So to sum up what I have (re)learned, the Auran or hp portal cannot be edited in sessions just The re-rail portal.

If anybody can prove or disprove this please do. I welcome it because I thought with TS12 I remember editing (any) portal in sessions.
Thanks for any help.
Kenny

Gonna need to clarify, "...portals. I can not edit them..." what exactly do you mean by editing the portal? Normally in a session you select the object tab, then the question mark, click on the portal to bring up the properties and edit that to make it spawn trains etc. That data (not the portal itself but the configuration of the portal properties) is saved to the session layer. Only time the save route comes up is if you move/rotate the portal or something.

You are correct sir. I did not specify what I was editing the portal for. And you are correct that I wanted to edit the portal to emit trains. That is what I cannot do with the two listed routes. WM & B&O Mega Route Native Mode and Anywhere Ohio
I CAN edit the Portals(to emit trains) when I edit the route.
I CANNOT edit the portals in the sessions that I create. When I click on them after selecting the question mark I get no response, Not even a error beep.
Kenny.

Hmmm, can't find either of those on the DLS. I checked in my own route in TS12 tho, I'm using KIUD:-3:12000, that funky long long tunnel thingamy, works fine. I'll check the other portal types, see what happens.

There are generally two portals types. One with the the tunnel and the other is called portal basic or re-rail portal basic. The basic versions do not have the tunnel. Just the track.

Hi Kenny - I confirm that in both TS10 and TS12 a portal basic has to be on a route layer which has to be selected in order to access the properties window.

I made a test route with a Portal Basic and a new route layer "Industry". Moved the portal to the industry layer. Can access properties if the industry layer is selected but not if any other layer is selected.

Moved the industry layer to the session pane - cannot access the properties there at all.

Searched Black Pages with all boxes ticked. ericmp has only 12 assets, none of which is named Anywhere Ohio.

Trains can be emitted from portals by several other means, one of which is "Central Portal Control"

The Anywhere Ohio Route comes from USLW forums.

Thanks For the answer. To me that is not the way it should be. To me you should be able to edit the portal in session so that you can set them up for diffrent sessions.
For example be able to have freight trainz emitted in one session but having passenger trainz emitted in anouther session from the same portal.
For that to happen you will need two versions of the same route one for passenger trainz and one for freight trainz.
Kenny

Indeed, Kenny, there seems to be something wrong but it need not be a show stopper. It is only necessary to select the route layer while editing the portal properties. When you have finished editing, reselect the session layer before saving your session. The route is not saved.

Central Portal Control (built-in) is more forgiving and allows you to set up trains while the route layer is locked. It can access all the portals from one rule and do a couple of things that the portal can't do, e.g emit a train immediately. Altogether, more convenient.

Cheers - Trevor

You might also look at pguys QuickPortalManager. Using a portal manager in the session level allows you to control portals that are locked in the route layer.
