Dukey's Railway, UK Preserved Railway, screenshots and request for beta testers!

Davie_UCF

Here since 2001, Trainz!!
A long time ago.. back in the days of TRS2004 I started a route which I recently started to totally overhaul.. I intended and still do (But life and work is silly) release it with lots of highly scripted sessions.. I haven't yet got that far except some half finished ones.

Anyhow its a rather self indulgent route, quite detailed with lots of payware and assets i've reskinned for my own use.. So I figured i'd let a handful of people give it a go so I can see what issues there are with such a thing, what assets need to be packaged up and DLS'ified if I ever release it.. Someone to send sessions and stuff..

If you're curious of this route, check the link in my sig. I did a blog when I started to revamp it just as a way of documenting stuff and as another hobby.

If anyone would be up for taking a CDP and seeing what is missing i'd be really greatful, I just want to know if its even possible to release sometime down the line.

Stuff you need to even possibly give it a go:
  • TS12
  • Settle & Carlilse add on (up to date with all the extra stuff from the website, you should have it already because its great!)
  • Duchess & Coronation class Auran payware (Not essential but i'd like to keep some of the assets).
  • FCT, because I figure it needs a lot of content!
  • Pofig's trees. (I can package these up to make it easier, as I believe you're allowed to do this under his licence, as long as they do not go to the DLS).
  • Stuff i've forgotten to put on the DLS.. (I can send as we go along).
Bit of history.
I started this route in 2004 as a fictional preserved railway I could run nearly anything on. Set in the UK, somewhere between the LNER and LMS regions. I wanted it as real as possible so devised stocklists the railway has and is borrowing.. i've got timetables for different densities to build sessions on and give that bit of realism. One quite unrealistic factor is the speed limit goes over 25mph, which if you don't' know is the max speed for a heritage/preserved line in the UK.. a bit of artistic licence.
The line currently is 10miles long (IRC) but has a few miles extra one end to a national rail station named Dussart modeled on Marks Tey (And named in tribute of Beanpole/HJP a great Trainzer). The line is intended to go further in the other direction towards a rather big railway museum (Already made) with mainline connection but I wanted to get the current version finished up before extending.
So far, 4(& 1/2, its a halt) stations with two passing loops.

I'm the kinda person that rarely finishes anything, I left this route alone, moving onto other things until just over a year ago on the aniversary of Dukey's death.. intending to bring it upto date, revamp it and release it.. I managed to finish the first version but then couldn't control my creative bug and extended it somewhat.. (Don't we all do that?). IF you're curious as to how the old Dukey's Railway looked when I opened it in TS12 after not touching it since 2004 with comparison shots to how it looks now.. check this post out http://dukeysrailway.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/comparrison-shots-old-vs-new.html

Some screenies.

DISCLAIMER: Old screenshots grabbed from my blog so you get an idea.. Most of them are over a year old.
Hopkins End, the end of the line! Hopkins End is a seaside town with caravan parks and amusements. The railway terminates here and is the base of most of its rollingstock and steam locomotives, including a few exhibits!
I think I pulled off making the handcar look like the driver is a model right?

Buffet and restaurant mk1's in the carpark. They stay here you see, the food is lovely I hear, but upon delivery this shunting movement wasn't thought out and our 08 was trapped..

An early shot of Bowery, before the line through the carpark was put in. (Where the restaurant mk1's are now situated).

Dallaston Halt which is situated between Brigden and Hopkins End is situated in an area of outstanding beauty known as Figgybee park. The halt is sat on a severe gradient so the loop is rarely used and trains often only stop in one direction.. with some exceptions, making for a challenging drive.

75% of these screenshots were taken from my blog, so are over a year old.. bare that in mind! :)

Hope you enjoy and maybe i'll get some new friends to help me sort it out!
I'll try get some more screenshots up, especially of Hopkins End and it seems to be least represented in my blog (where i'm grabbing the shots) and its my favourite place so far.

Heres one for now, showing the end looking towards the coast.. you can see the sidings which most of the stock is stored in.

The darkened parts are beyond Hopkins End and Bowery and therefore not yet finished or intended to be for quite some time... Although the part to Dussart on the left will probably be a part of the beta cdp

Goodnight!

So no replies yet. I did think people would fear the hell of dependencies. In the mean time, I might as well share screenshots and see what everyone thinks anyway. It's been years since I posted a thread with my own creations in, I used to in the old days but I don't often feel that confident with what i've done these days.. and if its alright I don't like getting peoples hopes up!

Heres some brand new screenshots from playing with the route as it is now :)

Excellent work, obviously a lot of time and patience has been spent developing the route. I noticed your junctions look very realistic - what junction Kuids are you using?Bob

Is there any chance of this for TS2010? I have TS12 but I can't run a single baseboard without some degree of lag, whereas in TS2010 I can run the ECML with absolutely none, and that's at King's Cross station.

I don't have Pofig's trees yet so a package by you of them would really help me there.
I have the SnC add-on, patched and working, as well as everything from the SnC site.
I also have the Duchess and Coronation.
I don't have a FCT yet but my birthday is in two months and I plan to get a Lifetime one then.
And I of course don't have your extra bits. :)

I really want to use this. :(

I don't think it can go backwards into TS10. It would be interesting to see but its not something I want to try out right now. I can't imagine why TS12 would run so badly for you compared to TS2010, I thought it ran a bit better!

Everyone says it should run better. That's never been the case here. I run both on the lowest detail settings. I usually drive the Settle & Carlisle line, and I have the same in both versions. I can do a comparison video of them if you wish, and I can show the framerate I get around Carlisle Citadel in both versions, with the same consist.

I'm willing to try it in TS2010 if you want me to give it a go. I sure want to!

Really nice looking route you have got there well done

Thanks for your kind words! Its many years of me tweaking and coming back to it until I went crazy and self indulgent. Really shows what you can do with Trainz compared to back in TRS2004. Mainly because my PC has overtaken the Jet Engine so I can just put tons of detail in. If they updated the engine to be awesome like Train Simulator 2013 I think this routes performance would be unplayable :p

Thanks also. I spend more time messing with AI, paths and commands, trying to pull off various things and timetables than actually creating now theres a good chunk of railway. The junctions are quite old now, by Andi06. They come with textures that match the MP tracks but in one version of trainz (Can't remember which) the MP tracks were obseleted by a newer HP-track which was the same but with darker texture. I've modified the junction textures to match it.. Thats something i'd have to sort out if I ever released it.
I've really wanted to upgrade the track as it would add so much more realism, the HP track is showing its age a bit as a chunkymesh but no tracks will match the animated junctions, even if I modified the textures. Its a shame and I guess the junctions, although advanced when I started the route, will be the assets that would hold it back in future.. unless I totally redid the whole routes junctions with a newer animated track.

Thanks for all your interest and nice words :) I will share more screenshots soon.

Regarding TS2010, I will think about it once i've got a version sorted out I can send to someone with TS12.

Mr UCF,

I often feel guilty at using the often excellent content of you maker-lads without ever contributing a thing, so if you would like a beta tester for your Duke, Lataxe is willin'.

My personal Trainz preference is for detailed British routes rather like yourn, especially (but not exclusively) those of the steamy kind. After having collected a number, I've spent many happy hours joining some of them together then "improving" them with speedtrees, hooking out the more annoying splines, adding detail then making a dirty great session full of AI trains to run over them. I've also done some mild route-making via a joining board or two atween the routes of others that I've merged.

Recently I migrated my TS10 content piece-by-piece to TS12, which hopefully left behind the many unused assets in TS10 (now archived to an external HD). Many & many were the tweaks and new fixes needed! Now there are no errors or missing deps.

Anyroadup, I am fully TS-twelved-up, including the S&C, Coronation + Duchess, Pofig trees and much else - even a bit of 3rd party payware. Perhaps, then, I will be a useful beta tester of your Duke? My PC is quite rapid and includes an overclocked i5, AMD 7960 GPU and an SSD. I view the wonderous worlds of Trainz routes on a 30" monitor; but it all seems to run quite smoothly at a decent frame rate.

But perhaps you'd prefer a test rig of more average spec, as this would presumably be more appropriate for a route made available to all via the Download Station...?

How might you deliver the CDP, should you want me as your beta tester? Is there a private message route in this website....?

Lataxe, fond of fiddle-pharting about.

(please pardon my reply, I'm at work on my phone so may be brief)

Thanks for your kind reply! I'm not really interested in testing its performance yet, this is more about if it will even come together on someone else's setup with all the self indulgent dependenciesand so I can sort out all the various reskins of assets I've used.

You sound like you have a good basis to try it out aslong with a few others. I'll drop people an email when I've fixed a basic session thats been bugging me. Pm me your email via my profile if you haven't already.

Cheers all!

Nice shots Davie. Good to see creative use of pofig's trees, I think they're some of the best speedtrees in Trainz. Have you also tried out the broadleaf ultratreez by mcguirel? I think they're excellent for creating 'blocks' of flora and foliage. They are:
M: UltraTreez-BroadLeaf 01 (Performance/MP),<kuid2:72938:43156:3>
M: UltraTreez-BroadLeaf 02 (Performance/MP),<kuid2:72938:43157:3>
M: UltraTreez-BroadLeaf 03 (Performance/MP),<kuid2:72938:43158:3>
M: UltraTreez-BroadLeaf 04 (Performance/MP),<kuid2:72938:43159:3>

Paul

I had got close to finishing what I was working on.. then SP1 came. Which is a mixed bag, its made it easier for me to make sessions but its also broken a few things..

In the mean time :)
