Drive via track mark

Get over it
I have many of these commands on my routes to help the consist bypass stations and industries to direct the consist to the correct destination. As the consist approaches the track mark it slows down 1/2 speed or less and then resumes the posted speed. Why? The posted speed is 40mph before and after the track mark. I would think that it would stay at the posted speed. Thanks.

This has always happened and I asked the question on the old forums before the big blowup back in 2006. I can't remember what the answer was. I think it's listed as a known issue and bug that was never fixed.

Are you using "drive to" or "drive via?" Drive to will cause AI to slow, sometimes, not always, Drive via will will cause the AI to drop 1 or 2 mph.

Drive to should almost stop the train, it will only continue once the drive to command is deleted and the next command is issued. Drive via is similar, it slows until it knows what the next command is.

This brings us to the next question (or issue): AI in Trainz looks for the next situation only, and it does not know what is beyond until it reaches the immediate next point. A variation of this is when a train arrives to a signal protecting a set of points; to go to destination, it has to switch one or more points down the line, but it does not and sits there, just because apparently it can't see far ahead. In the original case, the train "sees" the trackmark right ahead, but it does not see what is beyond until it reaches the first point. Oftentimes you get to a Mexican standoff between two trains based on this peculiarity. As I said years ago: If Trainz were to play chess.. it will lose all the time.

Thanks to all who have responded. I'm using the drive via command and it slows a lot more than 1 or 2 mph. As I said earlier it drops by 1/2 or less and than continues. Your explanations make sense regarding not seeing the next command but it never slowed this much before. Something I'll have to live with. Thanks again.

Do you have a signal in front of the trackmark? If so, place the track mark behind the signal so that AI reads the signal before the track mark.

I place 05 (permissive) signals between junctions approximately 1 mile apart this keeps the trains running and I only drop 2~3 mph between track marks if that. I also do not place my TM to close together as this can slow the trains down and if they are to far apart it will do the same thing, you have to play with their placement to keep them moving.
