Up until yesterday when I found content on the dls i would just click dl and item would dl. Now when I do the same thing a ap window pops up and wants me to pick one. Tried dl with cm and nothing works. So what's happened lately?

I just opened up my CM and picked a loco to download ... and everything was fine. Perhaps they were doing something with the DLS when you tried last, so suggest trying again and hopefully you will get the same result as me. Regards. Colin (Driver_Col)
 
If you are using the ftp download from the website of the DLS, the behavior of the browser might have changed. The latest version of Chrome (and some other browsers ?) has dropped the support for ftp.

So if chrome and others have stopped supporting ftp what's the solution to be able to DL items from the DLS?
 
I download the .cdp to a save folder and then, in CM, click File>Import Content Files. Then navigate to the save folder, select all the files and CM will import them.

There is no solution needed because there is no problem. CM is now the recommended, and far superior, method of downloading assets from the DLS. I have not used FTP on the DLS website for years, and have not even looked at the DLS through the website for almost as long.
 
Pware, Ref: post #6, unfortunately there are still assets out there on the DLS that don't show up in CM. If CM was comprehensive, I would agree with you.
 
If you right click on "Download FTP" > "Copy link address" and paste it into google/chrome's address bar at top of the page (or new Google page), the cdp will download automatically to your pc.
Next just need to manually drag the cdp into CM to install.

This works so far.

I have tried all of the suggestions and still can't DL anything from the DLS for some reason. Any suggestions?
 
Username and password are registered and in Trainz Settings. When trying to use cm to download something from dls nothing happens.
 
PWare, I don't want to hijack this thread, you are very kind to help Alco_P-A. The issue in CM is you can't check a box for the older versions, so far as I know. So you only get back so far in Trainz versions. Having said that, I see actual asset versions in CM back to 1.3, so can't quite compute that.... All I know is I have had to go out to the site because something isn't in CM, which once I found it at the site, of course, I could not download it.
 
OK, I am trying to understand this.

The issue in CM is you can't check a box for the older versions, so far as I know.

The only way I can make any sense of that is by assuming you have selected in CM an asset that is on the DLS, then used the right mouse button to open the popup menu and tried to select the option Download. If the asset is already listed as "Installed from DLS" (is this the case??) then it will not download - the download window will very briefly appear before closing. Assets listed as "Built-in" will not even give you the Download option.

I just set up a CM filter to display all assets that are on the DLS but not installed on my system. I sorted the list to put the oldest versions (lowest build numbers) first then I selected and downloaded a asset with build 1.3. It downloaded and installed successfully.

I ran a second test with the CM filter to display all assets that are on the DLS and installed on my system. I then found an asset that was listed as "Installed from DLS, Obsolete" so it was an obsolete version of a DLS asset that was on my system (so I already have the newest version installed). I attempted to download it using the Download option - it was downloaded but as I already had the newest version installed it was ignored after being downloaded.

I then deleted both the current and obsolete versions of that asset from CM and tried again. I selected the oldest DLS version of the asset I could find and used the Download option. This ignored all the older versions and downloaded the newest version only - this is exactly how the Download option is supposed to work.

I deleted the downloaded asset again and tried a second time, I selected the oldest obsolete version and this time I used the Download this version option. It downloaded and installed the selected (and obsolete) version of the asset. CM displayed it as "Installed from DLS, Newer version available" - this is exactly how the Download this version option works.

Not sure if any of this helps.

Not really if you are referencing me. I am talking about when someone posts an old KUID available at the DLS, but it just doesn't show up in CM, even if I use "All Content". Then the only place to find it is at the DLS itself. This has happened more than once, but I would need a recent posting to refer to, and I don't have anything handy.

Could be on the faulty asset list. Quite likely if it's an unsupported build upload.
Or
Possibly there is an update going through the approval process, try again in 24 hours.
 
Tried to DL Kuid 439337:105723 using CM from DLS with nothing happening. Tried DL to cart which says content invalid and nothing again happened. This is a 2019 asset. Again I ask why is nothing from the DLS working for me? Running windows edge if that's a clue to my DL problem.
