Download to where?

Get over it
This game is driving me crazy and that's a short drive. When I downloaded an item or items from the dls it used to go straight to cm but now I get a message asking me what program I want to open it with. What the heck happened? How do I get my downloads to go to cm? Thanks. I'm able to use FTP and the download cart but would like to use the cm.

Not sure if I've got this right but are you attempting to start CM by clicking on a download link on the DLS (white or black) web pages?

If this is the case then it is possible that your browser has lost the protocol for correctly matching the .cdp file with the program that it needs to launch, i.e. CM. This is probably the result of using an "over zealous" registry cleaner. If that is the case, then look at this solution I posted for an identical problem several years ago.

EDIT: I just looked at the registry structure in Windows 10 and it is quite different for T:ANE. For example: the Trainz folder in Regedit is not there but has been replaced by a cdpfile folder but the sub folders are the same. The default icon and shell -> open -> command string entries are also different. So the above solution will not work exactly as posted. Mucking around with the registry is not for the faint hearted for good reason.

I would also be interested in the answer for T:ANE so I can update the solution post.

In the meantime using CM to download directly from the DLS instead of via the web interface would be the best advice I could give.

Hello Pware

John and Shane had a thread about it, but can't locate it! Assuming you're mean CCleaner!

I've send Shane a link to this thread, so I'm sure he'll answer when he comes on!

Kind Regards
Ish

As Shane, Clam1952 (Malc) and I were discussing, programs such as CC-Cleaner mess up T:ANE because there are settings in the Users\App Data\Local\Temp structure that get cleaned up by these programs. Their intention is good, but they sometimes do too good a job. The solution is to exclude this directory as shown here from scanning:

C:\Users\jcitr\AppData\Local\Temp\com.n3vgames.tane

As far as downloading via the web white pages, direct download doesn't always work even if you associate cdp files with T:ANE. If it is necessary to use the web pages instead, use FTP and save the files to a directory.

John

I'm here now (thankyou for the PM Ish).

The important file association for this is for trainz:// addresses. Trainz is supposed to set this if you run Content Manager at least once as administrator, however if that fails there is the option of setting it manually or using the second edition of my Trainz Protocol Changer tool.

Sorry I'm late in responding, no excuses. Shane's program worked. I'm a happy camper again. Thanks to all who replied.
