Download complications

I am new to the game. I originally downloaded MaC version but quickly got sick of how frustrating it was so i purchased the windows version and put it on laptop. However, there are 6 files that have to be downloaded and they take an hr a piece I did the first one and then got a message saying windows couldnt complete the download. Something about no available program to open. Its a brand new, fully loaded laptop..hp dv6 made special for gaming and entertainment purposes.

I can't help with your downloading issue, but be very careful with the dv6 (and Pavilion dv7). They overheat very quickly and will often do so to the point of shutting themselves down.

My HP Pavilion dv6 suffered a hard drive failure a week or two ago, and that was after only 3 years of use.

The operating system does play a part though. If you're using Windows 7 or 8 then you're not in a stage so critical that I'd advise against using Trainz on your machine. However, Windows Vista was a performance hog and helped my laptop heat up so quickly. Still, be careful either way. A cooling pad is a sound investment.

Somebody will be along to assist you with your real problem. :)

G'day jengossett, if "Something about no available program to open" came up after the download completed it would appear you may have selected "download and install" instead of just download as for the install to take place you need all six files downloaded to the same folder, then you can install.
Before installing I recommend looking at Shane Turners Tutorials on downloading and installing.

Seems to be a common theme my DV6 is on its third hard drive and second case it got so hot that it melted a hole in the bottom of the first one -and it often cooks itself just surfing the net let alone trying to run trainz. My cousins burst into flames would not have believed it myself if I was not a witness.

After the good news your getting about the laptop I suggest getting a cooling pad for it.
Your A/V might be playing havoc with the download, put planet auran or simulator central on your trusted site list. When it comes to installation of 2012 turn the A/v off while you do it.
Have a look at the below link, might help you. I thought auran recommended a download helper for the files you need.

Yeah Fran, it's not the best of news but it's best to know now and take preventative measures than find out the hard (and expensive!) way. :)

For the download, in addition to the above, make sure you're not using a download helper - N3V advises against these.

In addition to that, as fran1's link does show, check the filenames of the downloaded files. There should be 5 .bin files (setup-1a.bin,setup-1b.bin,setup-2a.bin,setup-2b.bin and setup-3a.bin) plus one .exe file (setup.exe). The likely one to be missing it's extension is the .exe file, but check the full filenames first.

I too have a HP Pavilion Dv6 (AMD A6 Quad core/6 Gb ram/AMD Radeon graphics/Beats audio), and IT TOO gets nasty hot...I have a block of wood that I keep under the feet on the battery side, to give extra air flow and heat dissipation area.

I run TS2010 (Trainz 2010) on it (runs ok on minimalistic routes, but it's a slide show on Avery Drexel), and I do a lot of content creation on it, but it will not run TS12 to my satisfaction. It simply is not enough hardware to do the job...
--But don't get discouraged yet, because there is a way to run your new PC version on your MAC computer...do an internet search for "MAC BootCamp", or browse the MAC section of the forums for more information on running a windows partition on your MAC computer.

For the Downloads; There are 6 files you need to have all together BEFORE you try to install anything. They are VERY large files, taking 1~4 hours each to download, depending on your internet speed. Download them ONE AT A TIME, do NOT try to download 2 or 3 at once to save time, because they are so large, they will get corrupted in your temp folder, before they finish and can write to disk. (I learned this the hard way...after 12 attempts to download EACH file, and three days later.)

Yes. Download the .bin files first into the same folder but don't open them. Then you can download the .exe file into that folder then run it.

Shane

Also ensure you view extensions so you see .bin, .exe, etc.

I thought my old Toshiba laptop got hot. It gets pretty cold around here in the winter and perhaps the HP DV6 would be a good space heater. I wouldn't recommend keeping the machine on your lap. You could end up with burns.

Ok i downloaded all of the files in order. They are in my downloads folder. When i tried to run the final install, it says plz jnsert disk 1. Then it says the file setup couldnt be located. Insert disk or search another folder. What I dont understand is, its searching the correct folder. Its searching Downloads.

Might be worth checking for extra characters in the filenames. Failing that, try right-clicking the files in turn, then clicking Properties, then clicking Unblock if the option's available.

Shane

Appears the Unblock suggestion worked. I seriously dont know how you people know these things, but Im glad you do! Im pretty good at following directions, but when something goes awry, Im totally clueless!

Ok the download nearly completed but stopped at the preparing to install phas. With same error message that 1a.bin cannot be located. Its there. Should i try redownloading it?

I'm assuming that you used Unblock on the .bin files as well. What are the filenames of your downloaded files? (the .bin files and the .exe file)
