Double Track Spacing?

Is there a recommended spacing between double tracks - curves and straight?

Also, some signals seem too close to the track and passing freights occasionally scrape the edge of the signal. Is there a place in the signals script to specify spacing from the track?

I suspect the first part won't quite help you as I'm assuming you're modelling the US, but you may be able to pick up on some tips.

Spacing can vary in the UK, but generally double track can be achieved by aligning the edge of the spline point with the inside of the outer rail - see screenshot below. I'm sure someone has probably found something similar for US spacing. On my current route, some sections are more widely spaced but generally the below is used for 'plain' sections.

For signals, it would depend if you are using S1 or S2. In S2 you can simply click on the signal and use the axis tool to drag it closer or further to the track. In S1, the only way that I know of is to go into the config file and edit the 'trackside' tag - have a little play around and see what works best for you.

I use both spacers and also general placement by aligning the spline points so that they touch the edge of the ties on both tracks. That seems to match the 5m track spacing pretty well.

Up here in the Boston area, our track spacing varies considerably. The oldest lines, such as those on the north side are as close as 3.5 to 4 meters. Those lines that were built later are 4 to 4.5 meters with some up to 5 meters. We also have lower bridges and tunnels making double-stacks impossible on the Hoosac Tunnel route.

I prefer to use the 2 track crossings as well, but my only complaint is that the 2 track stations use a different spacing than the crossings. This is most evident when there is a 2 track crossing near a station.
