Don't seem to be able to start Trainz!

It would help if you told us which version of Trainz you have?
Did you just recently install it (in which case where did you install it from and how did you install it?) or has it been on you desktop as an icon for some time but not used?
Assuming you have Windows as your OS, right click on the Marker (icon) and select Open File Location. Is there anything there?

Please post under your original account. Multiple accounts is in some cases considered a violation of the Code of Conduct.

Please be a lot more clear; without you sharing a lot more information, we can not help you. The version of the game (and build number) would be the absolute minimum.

Please post in the related support forum. This is NOT a General question, but a version related question, so start future topics in the related forum. Post in the correct forum would have told us what version of the game you are on about.

I have rejoined via 2004, which as I recall was the version that I was originally on.
In the past I did upload a couple of layouts .

It must be around 10 years since I was active so I have recently purchased a new copy on line.

I'm confused. Ten years ago you were still using 2004, and now you have a new version and you can't launch it. But we still don't know which one, or what's happening ... it's difficult like this.
Include more details, like build number, version, and some screenshot.
And also post in the thread for the corresponding version, as you have been indicated.

Not necessarily a new version I purchased the 2004 disc recently from the web.
If I can not get the thing working I will forgo the pleasure!

I am thinking by now most of the boxed versions floating around the web are used, and the serial numbers are therefore not reusable. Or did you actually get a shrink-wrapped original? Even TRS2012 is only available from Steam. If you want to get back into Trainz I would recommend at least T:ANE PE or TRS2019 PE, either of which are available now at dirt cheap prices.

Okay, that changes things a bit (to me) ...
First of all, this is a new account, meaning you don't remember or have access to the one from 10 years ago, and you haven't even mentioned your old username. That's not good.
Secondly, if you manage to get an original CD online (which must already be registered, therefore unusable unless you have the username and password, which doesn't seem to be the case) of version 2004, I don't see the point when version 2009 is available for free, if you want to mess around with old stuff.
We also still don't know which version (2.0 to 2.4) or any other clues ...
I understood that it can be a bit difficult to run TRS2004 on modern computers—I can't imagine using anything earlier than 2009, anyway, and I still have TS12 installed and it's working - so good luck with your experiment.

TRS2004 can run but downloading content is impossible unless he has a First Class Ticket which is required and even then he can only use FTP to download content because the old online DLS doesn't work like it did 20 years ago.

Unless he has Trainz Objectz, installing content is absolutely confusing and cumbersome when done manually as is managing the data in general. It's amazing how far everything has come since those days and how much easier things are starting with TRS2006 onward.

TrainzObject ... Wow ! :unsure:My neurons remember that name, I associate it with Tafweb ... was he the creator ? I never used it, but I remember that name from when I was studying about TS2006. I still have the CCG PDF for TC3, a bible for me, which I was able to apply when I got TS2009 ... ages ago.

EDIT :
I did a quick search of my hard drives and found two executable versions: TrainzObject (2.3 MB) and TrainzObject_5.44 (2.7 MB), both from 2009 -obviously some backup files-.
I also found with them an archived TrainzObject webpage that indicates the latest version is 6 (5.44) and warns against using it with TS2006. It also explains about a small patch to update from 5.43 to 5.44.
The last revision date is April 28, 2009.

Pure history ...

Pure history indeed. Frank did write the application. He's correct in saying not to run with TRS2006 due to the database. TRS2006 had its own bag of worms to contend with.

I purchased the 2004 disc recently from the web.
That probably means that you will not be able to register or use your copy on the Trainz site because it would already be registered in the name of the original purchaser.

Your user profile indicates that you are a NEW member who joined less than 24 hrs ago so unless you can remember and use your original (from about 10 years ago) username and password then you cannot use your original copy either, if you still have it.

Your options are:-
  1. abandon using Trainz.
  2. purchase, download and install a legal version (I would recommend TRS22PE) from the Trainz Store using your current username and password. This would depend on your system specs meeting the minimum level needed for running TRS22.

As mentioned earlier, you could sign up for the emailed newsletter and will probably be allowed to download the 2009 version of Trainz for free.
I'm not certain what username / password you'd need to use to authorize it. (I ended up using my existing 2009 credentials.)

I don't know your computer's hardware details, so don't know what version you can run. Any newer version will be easier to use than 2004.
