Donationware questions, part deux.

Quick question to the forums. I'm having problems with my website providing a link to download my new route. (Yes, there are more in the works, possibly a future full payware route, but that's beside the point.)

If I were to upload it to the DLS, would I be allowed to include in the description the following statement:

Thanks for downloading. If you like this route, please consider donating! Head to (My website) for more details and how to donate.

Sure, I don't see why not. Making such a request is no different than requesting people to ask you before reskinning or modifying or content. I actually have such a request squirrelled away in my license to some of my newer content, albeit not to donate to me, but the ASPCA.

If information given by WindWalkr recently is anything to go by, information entered in the license section of a config.txt is not legally binding to either N3V or the end user (and may well be worthless) - see Ish's thread in Trainz Community for more info.

I can't see where any issues of being legally bound would come of something like this. It is more a matter of "Here it is: use it, enjoy it, and if you liked it, how about shooting me a few bucks for my effort."

Great cause, RRSignal! Personally, though, I don't think either of these things should be solely in the license section, because frankly, I don't think that there are that many people who actually read the license on things. Throw it out there in the description section so people can see it!!!

You're right. I'll start doing that in the future.

@Shane

-It wouldn't have been legally-binding anyway since a donation is voluntary, hence Magickmaker has nothing to worry about.

True - I still have concern over the license entry in the config.txt though. For donations though, it should not effect things.

For one, it would make things easier in my case. I'd not have to use a file hosting system, and could be certain players would get the most up to date copy of the route. Having the note about donations might help too. You have no idea how much a pain it was to get the "donate" button coded for my site, and even then it stuck me at a donation of five bucks :( I'm working on fixing it, but that's slow going. Sadly, I may end up moving the site simply because of that. I'd preferred to have a "Select your own amount" button, but for some (censored) reason it's not working properly right now.
