Does anyone has a nVidia GTX 660 without the problem with multicolor assets?

Edit:
Ooops, this should be in "General Trainz". Sorry.

Hi all,

I bought myself a new videocard because the old one died.
It's a nVidia GTX 660 from Palet.

Now I have big, BIG problems with everything I download or edit.
All new downloads are "open for edit" in CM as soon as I commit them I see only black or multicolor locomotives and rolling stock.
Other things like houses, trees, etc. are ok.

Old assets that are already in my install of Trainz are all OK untill the moment I edit something.
Just simply do "open for edit" and "commit and save" is enough to get it all black and multicolor.
And I can't get it good again, whatever I try.

Delete and reinstall assets does not work.
Delete Trainz completely and install a fresh 2010ee makes no difference.
Read all tips and tricks here on the forum and tried the mentioned solutions, makes no difference.

Some say: it's a videocard related problem.
But... why is every other game I play fine then?
It's ONLY Trainz that has this problem, so it's a Trainz problem!
Ok, with the old videocard, a Radeon 5700 series, I never had this problem.
But this new card GTX 660 2gb runs so much better, I will not go back to Radeon.

Is it now so that everyone who buys a nVidia GTX 660 can't play Trainz anymore?
That would be stupid.
But after 6 weeks trying and no result i'm willing to shut down Trainz for ever.
A shame for the 400 dollar payware, I can throw that away to.

So, this thread is a last option to get thing better.
Maybe someone has the golden solution.

Tried all the Shane tutorials.
I read all the related threads.
Maybe I missed something, I don't know.
What I know for sure is that I'm sick and tired of this problem.
And why o why is it ONLY after I edit something?

I am very suprised with that. I would suggest that you double-check your Content Manager settings as per my texture compression tutorial, then redownload the affected assets.

I would also suggest that you turn on the 'Automatically commit when installing CDPs' option on the Miscellaneous tab in the Content Manager settings.

Calm down, I've had that problem twice myself just check that video compression is not ticked.
Anything that you've downloaded may need deleting and downloading again. I do agree that it can be frustrating when you've downloaded 2GB on a new PC only to find that everything is rubbish as I did and that was the second time !

"Tried all the Shane tutorials" Why "all"? You only needed to do one;

http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php?page=black-textures-issue

And make sure the checkmark is gone, it should not look like this;

I have a GT430 on one computer and an 8400GS on the other, if that checkmark is there to enable the compression everything I edit and commit or download looks like this;

on either system. I have no idea what advantage there might be to hardware accelerated compression, but if you have an Nvidia card turn it off and leave it off.

:D

INDEED!

That one was de golden tip!

I've missed that one .

Thank you all, you saved my Trainz today.
All is well now.
I have to change some more assets still, but that's peanuts now I know how to do that.

I'm very happy I can play on now!

It supposedly speeds up the time taken to commit the asset by using the hardware on the card to compress presumably the images, disabling it means it is done in software, if there actually is any real difference in time taken it's so tiny that it's not noticeable.

Shane's tuts are very clear at this point.
I don't understand I did it wrong all the time.
The only checkmark I unchecked was in Trainz display options.
In all that stressy moments I just did look over it.

Six weeks no Trainz because of a stupid misstake.
The blame is al on me.

Sorry Shane, if I did read your tutorial a little better, this thread was not nessesary.

Merry Christmas to you all.

That is a common mistake - don't worry about it.

I believe it's because the one in the Trainz display options is called 'Disable Hardware TL' which is completely different.

I have seen from the Trainz discussion forums that Shane seems to understand what should be done to resolve certain issues, but any help is welcome: In my case I have recently loaded TS2010 on a new Alienware X51 desktop, and transferred a route that I am working on to the new installation. However I get the multicolour problem that is affecting both textures and buidlings. I read your advice from a while back and turned off the option for older content in the TS10 options, and then re-downloaded the route - but still with the same problem. TS10 is up to date with all the updates (Build 49933). I may have used textures in the route from other sources (eg from TransDem - do I need to load these into the new installation as well perhaps?) As far as I can see no other assets are missing. Very glad if you can give me advice on this. Thanks, pdw.

You will need to reinstall all affected assets - make sure you've turned off the texture compression first. (The other option is to open for edit and commit all affected assets).
