Dividing Passenger trains

Hey all

Im trying to do a couple of dividing services, that is there is more than one trainset coupled together at the terminus which then drives a certain length of the route, when they get to a set junction station the two trains divide, one goes one way and the other train a diferent way. Then they return to the junction at which they divided and couple togther to return to the main terminus as one train.

for example the weymouth/bournemouth train from london waterloo splits at southampton central. the Exeter St. Davids/Bristol Temple meads train from Waterloo splits at salisbury (all south west trains) Ive not been able to get it quite right, if any one has achived this to work seamlessly (on 06) then please offer me some guidence!

I'll have a go at Weymouth.
Command drive to B/mouth platform 2.
Command Load.
Wait for 2 mins.
Command uncouplez from 4. (this leaves a class 33+ a 4TC unit to go to weymouth)
OR
Command uncouplez from 3. This is for a 4 car EMU.
Send this to Weymouth.
Do what you want with the remaining unit but have it ready to move to London platform before the other unit returns. (put a temp driver in it )
Place a trigger about 2 miles outside Bournemouth station (london bound track Weymouth side) Name it.
Name the signal at the weymouth end of the Bournemouth-London platform.
Here we go.
Spare unit.
Command wait for trigger xxx to be triggered by (lead vehicle of other unit) followed by drive to platform 1. (throw spare driver off)
The last command for incoming unit is couple to vehicle behind signal xxxx.
Move driver to lead vehicle.

I see you split them at Southampton ??

This is something I did a lot of in 04.
Place some invisible track near southampton station with a TM and a driveable car on it, give it a name so you can find it with ease. This will hold a spare driver that is needed for the split train. You also need a TM near the start and end of the platform the train will arrive at.
The train from Waterlooe drives to Southampton and loads, splits and both trains go on their own ways. You need the "post message" and "wait for message and clear" plus the "Move to train at TM" commands.

Train A
Drive to Southampton
Load
Split (or uncouple)
Post message ****** completed task ** (the names dont matter as long as you use the same ones later.)
Drive to Weymouth etc etc

The following commands are for the driver in the car (Train B)

Wait for message and clear ******* completed task ** (same names as above)
Move to train at TM (this is the TM at the start of platform)
Drive to Bournemouth etc etc

On returning train B needs to be first to Southampton.

Train B
Drive to Southampton
Load
Move to train at TM (This will be the TM near the car)
Repeat (repeat train B commands if you want to use it again later.)

Train A
Couple to train at TM (TM will be at start of platform)
Load
Drive to Waterlooe

Train B can be used for the same action over and over again when ever it gets the same message. Start of platform refers to the end the train arrives at first.

They are on the DLS. Try looking in the Black pages (tab at top of forum) and search for commands.

Hi Dan

I have been using similar commands on my Bournemouth route

I have a 12 coach train arriving at Bournemouth (from London) then only the first 4 carriages go on to Poole.

I use the "decouple number #" command (KUID2:147570:80008:1) from the DLS to split the front four. away from the rear.

Then after a suitable wait the (original) driver can motor on to Poole with just 4x coaches.

I have a spare loco sat at a siding with a driver on board that I can then command to "move to train at trackmark" ( KUID2:57145:81110:1) and take control of that.

Perhaps that will help?

Don't forget that you will have to select the above commands in the session set up screen in surveyor, in order to see them in the drivers commands selection tool once you start the session.

If you are not sure of anything, then please post again for any further advice - and have fun!

Nij

PS I use a timetable, on an hourly repeat cycle for my route with extensive use of "wait until minute" command (KUID:178892:80003) which automates this very well!
