Detector Milepost

Hello. Could someone please tell me how to supress or remove the audio commentary on 'Detector Mile post etc' from Sherman Hill v 2 and Avery -Drexel etc. Thanks

Just remove the detector? Nah, too easy....:hehe:

You could delete the audio files, but I'm not sure what that would do to the asset in a whole. Maybe someone could enlighten me?

Hello Nimec,

the detectors are not in the Sherman Hill v2 route, they are part of the "Ballast Turn" session. You shoulnd't hear them unless you are running that particular session.

If you don't like them, then remove them in Surveyor (Select "Sherman Hill v2" > "The Ballast Turn" > Edit Session). After removing the detectors, save it with a different, easily recognisable name.

I placed the detectors according to the track diagram published in the August 2012 issue of "Trains Magazine" so, going west from Cheyenne, you can find them:

- approx. 2 miles before Borie Junction;
- just after Borie Junction;
- approx. 1 miles before Granite;

At each location there are two detectors, one on track #1 and one on track #2.

Thanks Pendolino. I have looked for them but don't really know what they look like or what Im looking for. The audio of the guy's voice start off long before the location you mention for the detectors. While ‘the voice ’ tells gives you the OK to depart etc, that's all OK, but you only travel to just before the second over bridge then ‘he’ comes in again with “UP 5 2 7 point Track 2 UP D M 5 2 7 point
2 Track [something ] No defects etc” then goes on to axles, speed, etc. and continues with its 'readings' during most of the session. It booms in over the top of the loco engine noise etc it. As I say, it starts of early in the game after getting out on to the main line. Once I find the detectors will this eliminate al that audio or is there a way to reduce/control the volume so that its not so loud? I have set my Sound slider in the options file to 40% and taken the tick out of 3D but it made no difference. This is a new install but it was not a problem in the previous one. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Don't really want to take you guys away from your work on the Donner Pass. Cheers

Its very irritating. and if you have the loco sound up a little this
voice booms in over the top of it. I cant find his detectors yet but theres more
to it than that I think.

Hello Nimec,

I added the detectors - as well as radio messages - since I thought their presence would have added a bit of realism to the session: in the U.S. cab ride videos I saw the sound of radio chatter (including detectors) is always present. From my readings abous U.S. railroad operations, I think that engineers also use detector communications as a tool to know what trains are near them.

Detectors, however should only be audible near their location. In the game, unfortunately, you hear all the detectors placed on the map, regardless of your position. I had to face a revolt of angry betatesters because they were tired of hearing endless detector reports about trains 50 miles away from them :D.

I will take and post here some images of the three detector locations, so you can remove them.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

That's what user assistance is for :D :D :D

Don't really want to take you guys away from your work on the Donner Pass.

Jango is working hard on the Donner: track laying should be almost complete (he's giving the final touches to Roseville Yard) and we're planning about an upgrade of the road network with better looking roads.

The rest of our "U.S Department" is working on a patched version of the Sherman Hill v2, correcting some errors (missing junction levers or signals), which shall be released soon.

Cheers.

Hello Nimec,

detectors appear on the route as some kind of electrical cabinets. In the pictures below, they are highlighted by red circles.

You can find them quickly using the "Find Object" function and entering their names (Trigger 147, 149, 155, 157, 159, 161). You can remove them from the "Trackside objects" menu.

These are the locations of the three pairs of detectors (from Cheyenne to Granite):

1) Before Borie Junction (they are near a quartet of signals) - Trigger 155 and 157

2) Just after Borie Junction (BOR 3 switch is visible in the background) - Trigger 147 and 149

3) About a mile before Granite, just before the two trackmarks for AI traffic - Trigger 159 and 161

I hope these pictures will finally help you to get rid of the detectors :).
