Derelict barns (1024 x 768)

I have a friend who has been riding his bicycle from Seattle Washington to Norfolk Viginia for the last 3 months with 3 days to go. Has has taken many pictures of railroads and thier equipment. He has a friend who is very interested in derelict barns so he has been taking many interesting pictures of them also and posting them on his blog.

I wil have a look at that site once my monthly ISP account rolls over again. Thanks for the tip.

I find the greatest problem with other people's photos is that hardly anyone takes a full set of the same building from all sides, facing square on to each side. It's usually just a single shot with heaps of perspective distortion. I'm hoping your friend will be more modelling-friendly in that respect!

They look just like my house!:hehe: :hehe:
Just Kidding!

They look great though! I am glad to see some more derelict stuff.

Well that IS good news. Maybe I missed something. This means we can uploaded the the lowly 04 and 06 content to the DSL again?

Don't get too excited. It's only good until the day Auran/N3V decide to 'fix' the DLS and the fix happens to disable the '04/'06 upload process. Nobody knows when that will be exactly, but from 1 Sept 2010, there have been no guarantees that '04/'06 uploading will work.

Deane – they are corkers!

Downloaded from DLS with no problem.

Thanks buddy.

Where would we be without the great creators!

I don't suppose a stay of execution is possible .... ?:(

Cheers

Yo mezzo, thats a great pic, love the way you have the derelict baggage car sitting in water!

Was able to download the barns, I did it ftp of course, as I must have these CDP's just in case N3V decides those of us who haven't bought TS2010 yet are deemed unworthy!

Lovely shot there Mezzo. How did you get that sort of dark reflection on the water, or does Trainz just do that? And, am I seeing things or is that a bed frame floating around inside the baggage car?

Anyway, here's another barn. It too has serious roof problems.

Derelict barn 05.

Good afternoon everyone.

Thank you betsy662 and Dinorius_Redundicus for your kind comments.

Deane. It’s not water. It’s baseboard plain grey coloured texture with a few squirts of ground texture around it. It avoids the nasty jagged land joins and shallow water flickering you get when trying to use “real” water.

I find real is much better in most instances, but textured water works well for distant scenery and screenshots.

It was easy to get the reflection. It was put in before the barn.

When the (very quick) squirts of land texture go down around the grey, you get the usual blended overlap, and those spiky intrusions along the grid lines. Thats all it is. Where a good “reflection” lands is where to place the asset.

$50 please!

With regard to the bedframe, it is not floating.

It is a derelict bunk bed (you can stack any asset), the lower section of which has sunk in the mud.

OK I got it wrong! :o I forgot to tilt it (SHIFT+ rotate tool), to bury it in the mud - but let's not start a barney!

You’d be surprised what else is in there.

That’s another thing I like about these assets. You can go in, walk around, and put other assets inside. Great stuff.

PS. I’ve just seen number five after a gloriously sunny and inspiring countryside trip this morning. Another must have!

@ Dino - thanks - more great stuff!

@ Mezzo - brilliant idea - stunning effect, thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!!

Andy :)

Alas...

:'(

Looks like Auran have finally brought down the axe. Uploads of Derelict barns 05 and 06 failed last night due to "obsolete asset format".

Sorry everyone.

Well heck Deane, maybe TPR would host them, as they tend to host a lot of content from folks who used to be exclusively DLS, USLW might host also, as well as Trainz Routes Repository.

@ Dermmy - Thanks Andy, you made my night - for all of one hour!

Just seen Deane's post. :'(

I'm now worried about downloads. Have just belatedly posted in the General Trainz, "Exactly when in September?" thread where there could be an issue.

Thanks for these fantastic barns, your content is with out a doubt some of the best available. Seriously screw Auran, don't let their uncooperativeness (if thats a word) be the end of your content. Like Betsy662, I am 99% sure sites such as USLW would gladly host your content.

Looking forward to hopefully continuing to enjoy your structures and scenery,

Matt S

Good afternoon everyone.

Deane,

What an great pair of new "Derelict barns 05 & 06"!

It’s a huge pity that they didn’t quite make the DLS prior to the 04/06 block.

Thanks a million for these two “orphans”. It was a surprise, but a privilege, to be able to add these to one of my UK routes. The great thing about them is that they can be placed in almost any country in the world, and still look right.

I just hope I have been able to do them justice tucked away in a quiet corner of the English countryside.

You, and your fellow creators, deserve all the credit and thanks going for your contribution to this great simulator (for me it’s not a game).

You all keep it very much alive, and cannot be thanked enough.

Let’s hope we can see these assets, and a great deal more of yours and those of your counterparts, available for all to use in the very near future – either on the DLS, or a 3rd party site.

Cheers
