Denver Light Rail

Klinger

The Chicago CTA guy
I have always wondered how the RTD brought in new Light Rail cars. When the Southeast line opened, I asked on of the event staff from RTD. He said they were brought in on special "trailers" so that the cars came in 1 piece. They were then offloaded.

Well, it was an answer, but it left many many questions. Well today, 2 years later, I finally got the rest of the answer.

It just so happened that on my way home from downtown today, while looking at the old Orient Express cars, a brand new LRV was sitting near the 10th street station on an 89' flatcar. Was wrapped in blue plastic with "Do not hump" at each end. They were getting ready to move it to the workshop thats down over there. There is a switch that goes from the 10th street yards over to the Light Rail mainline. I guess they push the whole thing across into the workshop, 89' flatcar, UP diesel and all, over onto the Light Rail Tracks and on into the yard. I did not see anything that would jump out for how its offloaded from the flatcar. But at least now I know how the cars arrive.

Wish I had a camera with me, it was quite a sight.

Ah, okay modern stuff. I was thinking that you were talking about the Denver and Interurban from the turn of the century. I just got a book on it and it looks interesting.

They're building new Light rail trackage right past my mom's apartments XD

Does watching light rail trains count as railfanning?
