DEM Request

Before someone replies with "Go buy TransDEM!" or "Make your own DEM" , let me explain first.

I`m looking on making the route from Cologne to Dortmund. If know this route, its fairly large, at least for me.
That means that it will take me quite some time until its finished, so I won`t be needing any other DEMs any time soon.
That makes TrainsDEM not worth its money for me, beacause I`m only going to use it once, maybe twice. I`m not saying TransDEM does not worth it in general, its just my situation that makes it so.

So, if someone would be kind enough to make a DEM of this route, I would be gratefull.

PS, I am aware of MicroDEM and TrainzHog, but it seems that I cannot access Trainz Luvr.

At what point does buying Transdem "Become: Worth It" ?

Going to dinner, the movies and buying popcorn for one "5 hour evening" for 2 costs $75 ... That's "Not Worth It" !

TransDEM is almost as addictive as Trainz. Once you make one DEM, you just have to have another.

And another.

And another.... :D

I have DEMs that I created of the Grand Canyon. Just to see what it looks like in Trainz. Devil's Tower in Wyoming. How about this one: the Marianas Trench in the Pacific Ocean! That gave me a new appreciation of how vast that area is. I could only get a fraction of it in Trainz. Roland keeps updating TransDEM with new features for Trainz users that I think alone are worth the price.

I would, it is great for lowering or raising a routes elevation even though Geophil has a warning among other things.

I know its great. I`ve seen what it can do. I`m just unable to buy it, at least for now.

Any offer would be appreciated though.

So, just like that, everyone came here to advertise TransDEM rather than helping!

Its OK. Have a nice summer!

Here's the thing my friend. What could possibly be better than doing this yourself? I can tell you that you will feel great when you see what TransDEM has done for you. If it's a matter of money, just save some up. Some tools are worth their weight in gold. This is one of them.

It still is a lot of work. I guess that's why not everyone is jumping at the chance to do all the work for you. I think most fellas who have bought TransDEM are busy working away on their routes. That's what you could be doing if you had TransDEM.

Do yourself a favour and buy it! You won't be sorry!

Cheers ... Rick

If everyone that asked, got a free DEM, for free ... then the makers of Transdem would make no sales.

Can I have a free OS, a free antivirus, a free Photoshop ... a free Trainz warez version ... Now that wouldn't be right, if everything in the world was free, now would it ... Then we wouldn't need money ?

TransDem is worth the money and the experience! No other program will give you the accuracy and range from the Corinth Canal to Mt. Olympus. Like the Great Alexander; it will open the world to you. Drop a few drachma and explore!

John,

What do you expect? TransDEM is more than worth the price paid for it initially, and it's one awesome program! :)

The other issue too now is the file sizes for many of us. In the old days, terrain could be clipped out of a much larger area where as today it's all downloads are in 1 arc-second slices which can be quite huge to manipulate. The issue then comes down to clipping exactly what you want out of this larger slice and then the files, I mean routes, start bouncing back and forth sometimes multiple times, until things are right for you. If you made the investment, you can then download and get everything right in the first place and save everyone else, and yourself of course, the aggravation of not getting things on the first shot.

Hi. I no longer use Trainz but for the Blender Game Engine I only use 3DEM and the resolution is not fine. Although no longer supported it can still be downloaded. Works fine for what I make with a Blender mesh up to 84,000 meters for historical coastal...but I can subdivide the mesh to make areas as fine a resolution as I wish, which Trainz can't.
A search on the internet should find it.

Transdem well worth it even just for one route. Assuming you've paid for Trainz, the hardware to run it on and the internet service to post on a public forum then it's a minute percentage of that total cost.
