Here we go again.....AI woes, 2019 edition.[/h]
I'm beginning to think that making AI work correctly is some kind of arcade game that the developers have included as a massive inside joke.

I've spent the last 4 days lovingly stocking my freshly-purchased copy of 2019 with goodies from the DLS, and constructing a test track.

To be honest, it's becoming a nightmare.

I'm running 2 AI trains on lowest possible performance settings, using signals and speed controls that I have previously deployed to good effect on T:ANE

I'm setting all of my mainline points to default 'straight ahead'.

Despite this, my AI trains appear to be under the control of drivers tripping on LSD. They're disappearing up random loop lines, and slowing to walking pace for no apparent reason, when the ruling speed is shown at 120 mph.

I've checked my gradients and loading, running 3locos with a modest rake of empty wagons should not incur the wrath of the gods of physics.

Is there a list anywhere of assets on the DLS that are NOT compatible with 2019?

Considering that 95% or more of assets on the DLS are legacy assets that might be a long list Bob. Seriously though AI is still the same simple minded moron it was in previous versions which means that setting signals in place needs to be done with care with invisible signals placed within line of sight of visible distant signals to prevent slowdowns; 'Go this way stupid' trackmarks have to placed to keep AI on task and stop it wandering off where it shouldn't; Facing crossovers need to be kept to an absolute minimum; And never never never use the 'Navigate to' command.

Otherwise may the Force be with you.

Thanks for the tips. My route consists of a clockwise high speed loop with several loop lines branching off around the edges. I have emptied a large bucket of yellow arrows to force the traffic in the right direction.

Frustrating that so many T:ANE capable assets don't work in 19. Can understand legacy items developed 20 years ago being obsolete, but this just looks like a big middle finger from NV3.

Your comment "Never never never use the 'Navigate to' command" seems odd.As far as I can see, it's the only command on the list that will dispatch AI trains.

Edit the session and under the driver commands will be Drive To and its relations which you can add to your list. The interface is the same as it was in T:ANE and below.

The AI can be quite annoying. Over the years I've gotten so I can anticipate what they might do most of the time, but they still surprise me more often than not.

Treat AI as an Artificial Idiot and you can't go wrong. Too far between signals AI slows down, no guiding trackmarks and the AI finishes up in the mulga. Hold its hand and it's all good. There are now a good array of 4.6 assets on the DLS, anything 3.9 upwards is made for TANE AND IS FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH trs19
cheers

As John has said select the 'Drive to' family of commands from the edit session menu. I always un-tick 'Navigate to.' The 'Navigate to' command will result in things like a train suddenly stopping on the main line and trying to back up in order to dodge another train or adverse signals, or anything else that the Automatic Idiot sees as a barrier to progress; - which is totally not something any railway on earth would tolerate for a moment. 'Navigate to' is a toy train set command that should have been binned a long time ago since all it does is cause mayhem.

Thanks to both of you for the quality advice. Don't recall seeing Navigate on my T:ANE dashboard, assumed it was just a semantics change as part of the 2019 facelift.

Small steps please, Graeme..... Can you explain what '4.6 assets' means, and how I can spot them in amongst all the broken and obsolete 'assets'?
