Customer Service - Auran please read.

If I am on Auran's kill list, then at least be up front about it and TELL me so I can clear off and never darken your door again - but at least RESPOND!

Bill
Yes...that must be it....their own version of Kill Bill...the week of working emails was just a teaser. They know that disabling the thread subscription feature renders the forum useless....they got your number for sure!!

There we go. Three responses after mine and not one single email telling me of them. I really don't need this.

Yes, but you still were able to read them....I personally don't subscribe to threads because I don't want all that email.... I just check the threads to see if anyone responded....if I'm so moved....

So long as you are subscribed to a thread, it should be available via the "Quick Links" at the top of the page.

Hi Bill

I'll speak to Mike about this one on Monday, and see what can be done.

Zec

Hi Zec,

Having been away for just over two weeks I'm just now trying to catch up on forums stuff.
I notice you are the moderating influence on this forum, & belatedly offer my hearty
:Y:"Welcome!"

It's great to see you involved & wish you all the very best with your time hard work & influence as moderator. Thanks for putting up your hand.:D

Been asked to post, so posting. Hell if I know why, but I'm just doing as I've been told. :hehe:

Now back to topic please!

Hi Bill

I've sent this on to Mike. A thought here, are the emails being spam blocked by gmail? I can confirm that I'm getting reply to post emails on my gmail account correctly. I would, however, suggest making a filter that tells gmail to not send any emails from helpdesk(at)auran(dot)com to the spam bin.

As it stands though, the email system for the forums isn't a high priority. It may get fixed in time, but right now it is a case of focusing on other things. Especially since, for the vast majority, it is working.

As a final thought. You do have your profile to automatically subscribe you to threads, and to send instant email notifications to you when someone replies to a subscribed thread.

Zec

Yeah, Zec. I've been through all of that. I was getting them on my new email and then they stopped again. I am beginning to think this is personal now and not a general glitch.

I went to log in yesterday and found that my username and password didn't work. Now, here's a real bit of silliness: There is NO WAY to contact the help desk without LOGGING IN! How the heck to you report you can't log in if you can't log in to report you can't log in - if you get my drift.

I screwed around on the login page for half an hour trying various combinations of letters/numbers and quite by accident I typed my username twice - once as user and once by password. THIS got me back into the forum. That is a HUGE security breach and I didn't do it!

Somebody - definitely NOT me - changed my password. I went directly to my Profile and changed my password again. At least I can now get back into the forums/help desk. This still did NOT fix the original complaint of NO EMAIL notifications.

Oh, and BTW, why the heck does Auran still keep that stupid "Contact Us" link when they have shut down that email path years ago? Why bother to have it at all? It should be completely removed from the web page if it isn't working.

First, simply stop clicking on it.
Second, you can access all the forums without scrolling all the way down....so stop scrolling all the way down and you won't see it....you know, out of sight...out of mind....

A quick look shows that the contact us link is not actually an email address, but an 'email form' much like the email forms to send emails between users on the forums. And is most likely hard coded into the forum system.

For the email issue. The fact that it worked, then stopped, appears to point towards a problem at gmails end. It may not be. Right now, we don't have the resources to work on this problem, which, when compared to other jobs that need doing, is fairly minor.

There is a possibility with the password problem though. When you change your email address on the forums, you have to enter your old password. On the same page is the password change area. It's possible that your browser has auto-filled this with your username.

As I said before, this isn't really high on the priorities list at the moment. I'll keep thinking about it, and I'll throw thoughts at Mike. But at this stage the only suggestion I can make is for you to keep fiddling.

Zec

Auran should give some feedback on progress being made regarding fixes for TRS2009. We know that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes.

For instances give an indication of when we can expect SP2 and updated manuals not a rehash of TRS2006.

Look at the DLS for locomotives and all you see are reskins. A reskin is generally a reworking of an item in TRS2004 and needs fixes to run in TRS2009.

it seems that Content creators are unwilling to fix or release new content as a result of the lack of correct information.

Until the goalposts stop moving the content creators are wise to sit on their helmets! The rest of your post will probably get you advised to go visit TrainzDev, if you want to read the inside information on 2009, and the mythical SP2.

I have pretty much given up on 2009 myself in disappointment, but will stop short of proclaiming it "the smelliest piece of offal ever issued from Auran's tract." Heck, if the astronauts can drink their own urine, I suppose even WBE can be recycled into something useful somehow...:D

I am still holding on to a small glimmer of faith , that SP2 will bring TS2009 to the "top" , as we had all anticipated when it was released ? The fact that SP2 has not been rushed out the door this time , is all that keeps my few ambers of hope aglow !
Let us hope the delay for it's release is worthy of the wait , and not that it has been shelved or that the delay is simply due to lack of competent testers ?

Just my thoughts --- ,DLR

@Zec:

I realize that the link is just to the email form but I tried it just for laughs. I got the expected "we aren't monitoring this link anymore" return message. Even the most basic web construction tools will let you add or remove links from a page.

What really bothers me is how my password keeps changing AND why my email address in my Profile keeps reverting to the address that doesn't work. After I made my last post, I went into my Profile and, sure enough, the email had been changed back to the blocked address again. I don't know if this is deliberate or the result of some form of back up but I sure wish it would stop.
