Custom Built Desktops Recommended For Trainz

Does anyone know of a place that builds custom built desktops? These are specs I want:

Windows 8-64 bit
NVidia GeForce GTX680M
Intel Core i7-4471 3.5GHz
8GB RAM
750GB Hard Drive Space
Microsoft Office Home & Student Edition

Should these be okay with TS12 and T2? Still looking for a computer that I can edit the flatcars from Jointed Rail without lagging or crashing since it's my system that is inept.

GTX680 for desktop, anything with m on the end is a mobile GPU, mainly for laptops and some of the all in one stuff.

The GTX680 is a decent video card for Trainz. I have one myself and would recommend it highly.

Anyway, there are many places around that will build you a custom machine. You can check out the web pages for these places in your area and see what they offer. Many of these places will build you a base machine but let you choose the components. They have set levels for various machines such as base cheap models for internet and office-type stuff, middle-range home PCs, and then super-gamer machines with all the whiz bang doodads added in. You might want one that's in between the super whiz-bang model and the mid-range.

The best thing you can do is pick some specs, tell us what you found, and give us the link to the machine you're interested in. Many of us here have longtime experience building machines, and help you kit up a good one. Heck, I started back in 1984 now that I think about it.

I don't really recommend for someone to go down the path of the custom pc builders. I highly recommend for one to build their own computer that meets their specs. I say this because I had a computer from a custom builder. The unit worked fine for the first 3 months then it kept BSODing one me. I ended up replacing the harddrive multiple times, both at mine and the company's expense. It got to the point where I asked for a refund and I still have not heard back from them. This was mid September last year. I built my own computer in October that year and I've had no problems.

I also would suggest for you to not go down the path of Win8 because its not good for gaming and other programs. Its best for touchscreen tablets and phones and that's about it, yet, that's my opinion and its up to you as to what OS you want.

My computer runs TS10 and 12 just fine. Before my build I was using a 2006 Compaq with the only thing new was a decent graphics card and HD (Still works!!!! BARLEY!!!). Here are my specs:

Win 7 PRO SP1 64Bit ($150)
Intel i5 3.4 GHz Quad Core (~$350)
16gb Ram (~$100)
1TB Hd (~$80)
Asrock Z77 Mom board (~$200)
Coarsair 650w Power supply (~$100)
MSI (Nividia) GTX650 ($125)

Cases are up to your choice. They range anywhere from $75-$200+.

The only real bells-and-whistles I have on this thing is a fan controller, water cooled heatsink and a good case for carrying this thing(I go to a friends house and game often). The companies will get you with the shipping and warranties. By building it, you are able to troubleshoot better. IF you do decide to build your own, make sure that the Motherboard and processor are compatible. That is the main thing.

These are my thoughts and experiences. Take what you want from them.

decent is an understatement.

in other words...you'll have so much 'horsepower' that your system could blow from boredom, least for trainz 12 rofl.

LOL. Well said. Actually it works quite nicely for other stuff too. I run two displays with TS12 in a window while I have Google Earth and JPG images open on the other for research. With the EVGA card, I have their PrecisionX to monitor the temperature and keep the card cool. The temps range from 36C to 54C most of the time. My framerates vary from the mid-100s to 30s depending upon what I'm doing in Surveyor. Driving sees anything from the high teens for really, really, built-up areas to mid-40s up to mid-70s for open areas.

I was going to suggest trying to build a rig yourself, also. It really is easier than you think. Once you get the hang of it, you can start troubleshooting it more easily, too.

I would definitely go for the home build. Start off as powerfully as you can afford; that way you will accommodate future software extensions. Make sure that you get a versatile case that will enable you to progressively update your machine over coming years. Also, have a look at adding a solid state drive (say 250 Gb) for purely running your operating system. Regarding your hard drive space, terabit drives are now quite cheap so don't try and restrict yourself to 750Gb. Over time, you might wish to add additional drives (I have three internal and one external drive). 8 Gb of Ram is a good starting point, but try for 16Gb in the longer run. Remember, the new version of Trainz will be 64 bit, rather than the current 32 bit, so expanded Ram will give better performance in the long run. There are plenty of suppliers on the web that will also give you good advice about how to best match their products.

Kris94 - just looked at your profile and noticed that you live out West so the people who have built my last three computers might not work for you. Think shipping charges. There was nothing wrong with my computers except that they needed upgrading after a number of years. At least check out their website and get an idea of what you might need and the prices. I highly recommend their services. Go to www.jncs.com Good luck.

I Trainz 2010 and 12 on a laptop I got around August last year specifically for gaming. However, with the new graphics program N3V is designing, I'm concerned that I may have to upgrade my graphics card, or worse get an all-new laptop. Having it on a laptop gives me the ability to work on Trainz regardless of where I am. Here's the specs on my laptop:

Model: Acer Aspire V5-551
Processor: AMD A8-4555M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.60GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00GB (3.45GB usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Operating System: Windows 8

Does anyone think my laptop will be able to handle the new graphics of T:ANE?

According to its specs http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/model-datasheet/NX.M43EK.006 your laptop can support 6GB RAM. RAM is relatively cheap so you would benefit by upgrading it.

APUs vary performence by memory speed, so if you get 2133-SO-DIMM, you will see graphics improvement over 1600-SO-DIMM

One more thing: if you want to upgrade your iPad to a new version to get better graphics, here's a way to get rid your old one:
