CPR Roundhouse Exasperation

I’ve been tinkering with this thing now for 3 days. And its till broke!

This asset is CPR Roundhouse,<kuid2:316:28007:1>
Its used on George Fishers’ Indiana Western,<kuid:106916:1084>

The roundhouse looks really good. New spinner track, new roundhouse track and the textures have been tinkered with a great deal.

I removed the roof to get inside and added track bumpers to all 32 tracks.

In general a work of art.

But it won’t work right. Oh it works, but not right in my opinion.

First adding the track bumpers was a disaster. It causes the spinner to
snap to the next position rather than turn. OK, delete the track bumpers.

The real killer is this. When it’s all put together and looking great,
when hitting the turn icon, it turns smoothly and all looks good except
it causes all the track from the spline attaching points for yard tracks to
the first spline point on that track away from the turntable to DISAPPEAR.

Track inside the roundhouse and stub tracks do not disappear.

And they stay disappeared till the spinner stops. If there is any rolling stock
or power on the track, it too disappears. When the spinner stops all reappear
as if nothing was wrong. Very distracting and not so prototypical to say the least.

Re-tracking the connecting track did not fix the problem.

Not having the track bumpers was bad but this is just unacceptable.

If this is not fixable, this roundhouse is going to go the way of its namesake.
All track will be routed around the turntable. A large parking lot will be added
along with some concessions an it’s gonna be a museum.

Note. The roof can be "removed" by adding an alpha file to the roof_tar.texture.txt file. Makes for an easy way to get inside to add just about anything to the interior.

Any help in fixing this will surely be appreciated. Thanks

I tried that roundhouse and when I rotate the turntable the textures do flicker and the track on the turntable lags behind the frame. I normally run in DirectX so tried OpenGL and the turntable works perfectly. My video card is NVIDIA GT240. Have you tried changing video type?

Bob

OK I tried OpenGL. It does seem to improve somewhat.

It now works smoothly with or without track bumpers in
the roundhouse.

But all attached track back to the first spline point in attatched
track disappears while the spinner is in operation.

I do know there is a more recent driver for the video, which
I have but have not installed. Just can't tear myself away
from surveyor...lol.

Guess I should do that. I have a ATI 5850 video card. Somewhere
on the forum last week I read the new driver does improve
OpenGL. I'll shut down the railroad and install it today and
see what happens.

Other than that, the museum is gaining favor.

Thanks

Dissappearing tracks seems to be something built into Trainz. Not on purpose but I've made a goodly number of roundhouses and it happens on all of them.

Have you tried placing the bumpers in the RH but not attaching them to the ends of the tracks?

Ben

No Ben, I have not, but thats a good idea.
It would be nearly impossible to tell from outside
their exact position. I'll give that a try.

Adding a height adjustment in the config solved
some of the texture flashing problem but didn't help
the disappearing tracks.

For those interested, look at the mesh in Trainz Mesh Viewer.
It's interesting to note, small pieces of the spline attaching points
seem to lie outside the dighole. Not sure if that make a difference,
but it's noticeable.

There's gotta be a solution. But I might add, if Ben hasn't found it,
it just might not exist.

As an afer thought! the tracks that disappear are the yard tracks connected to the turntable spline points.
They disappear from the turntable to the first spline point away from the turntable. I'm going to redo those
tracks and make the first spine point away a very very short distance. As short as possible. Maybe it won't
be quite as noticeable and it certainly won't have a loco sitting on it if its short enough. Later....
