Couple of questions.

I've had a busy year and only recently been able to get back into trains. Need to clear up some doubts and straighten things abit.
It's TRS06, by the way.

1. There is a severe lack of sound in Trainz. Can the sound buffers be increased or new sounds added like we do in MSTS?
2. What do the signals with three zeros preceding it do?
3. With a Phenom X3 and HD4850 IceQ4, I still get slight stuttering in very dense areas, are there ways to improve performance? Will using larger spline segments help?
4. I need a guide or something on long-distance route creation. Can anyone help? It's mostly freeform, based loosely on the Malaysian KTMB Railway. Robe River and Dejan-Clare Bay out-of-the-box are fine examples of long-distance routes.
5. Other than the USA signals, how do I use the other UK and QR/NSW signals?
8. Some locomotives do not shine light onto the track and ground surface despite being on. Can this be fixed?
9. I've got mesh for an MSTS train model, can this be converted to Trainz?
Worth noting Auran's DD40X has been successfully converted into MSTS, so I'm just wondering.
10. Backdrops are great for making a city look larger than it actually is, but they are unconditionally rendered; creating white (or black at night) shapes in the sky when viewed from a far distance. How do I solve this?

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

Uh guys, I'm kinda expecting better response than this. It's okay if there's no solution, I'm not going to pull my hair out or something don't worry. :hehe:

There's a known bug with the sound in TRS2006 that has never been fixed. On some hardware sounds are intermittent. It's never been possible to track down the cause. A new sound board may help but then again it might not.
3. With a Phenom X3 and HD4850 IceQ4, I still get slight stuttering in very dense areas, are there ways to improve performance?
Very dense areas will stutter even on the most powerful computer. There are many things which can be tried to improve performance. Try a search on this forum and you'll probably find a lot of useful hints on the subject.
5. Other than the USA signals, how do I use the other UK and QR/NSW signals?
There's a couple of video tutorials on QR/NSW signalling here. See also C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2006\Doc\manuals_cd\extras\NSW SIGNAL TUTORIAL.pdf
8. Some locomotives do not shine light onto the track and ground surface despite being on. Can this be fixed?
AFAIK no, as it depends on how the model was created (I think).
9. I've got mesh for an MSTS train model, can this be converted to Trainz?
gmax, 3D Studio and Blender meshes yes. Others I don't know.

Hope this helps and someone else can answer your other questions,

John

If you own the original mesh or have the legal right to modify it, then you just have to export it via the Auran game pack. You would also have to set up the config file to make everything work.
10. Backdrops are great for making a city look larger than it actually is, but they are unconditionally rendered; creating white (or black at night) shapes in the sky when viewed from a far distance. How do I solve this?

Backdrops are designed not to fadeout with distance and will always be displayed behind any other object, hence the name backdrop.

I made the leap straight from TRS2004 to TS2009 so I don't know the details of TRS2006 functionality. Also, note the date. Not everyone is gathered around their computer roasting virtual chestnuts by their virtual fire so you might want to be a little more patient waiting for answers. :o

Hi Martin,

The models are some Malaysian KTMB locomotives and passenger coaches. I've emailed the creator and he says it's okay so long as I keep it for personal use or include his name if I'm to upload it.

I didn't mean to be rude, sorry for the bump.

John,

I came across a thread saying RAID would solve stutters when loading objects from the disk (which is often the case I guess) rather than the video. I'll go round setting one up when I get the time and post back soon. And much thanks for the tutorial. :)

11. I just realized that the extra content (monorails, some jvc bushes etc) supposedly added when I installed SP1 is missing. Any ideas? It's 2.6, build 3099, runs perfectly. Just missing the new content.

Nicholas.

Again, without the original mesh files, I don't see how you will be able to convert from MSTS to Trainz, even if the creator says it's OK. Or did the creator also give you those files to modify, then yes, with a lot of work, you could convert to Trainz.

Yes, it's the mesh. Right now I don't know what to do with it and hence this thread. :o

12. My water is displaying kind of weird. When any texture other than 'glassy' is applied, the reflection of the sky will bob up and down and the ripples only appear in some areas. Framerate is affected quite abit when this happens. All but not with glassy water. What's wrong?

Well if you have the mesh and have permission to modify them, then it's easy. Just open it in the program that created it, verify that everything is working as it should, (animation, etc.) make sure the textures are correct (you'll need bump mapping for TS2009) and export to Trainz. Check that the config file is modified for TS2009, import and commit in CM2 and voilà, your done. Open a map in Surveyor, place the engine on some track and go for a test ride. :)

To install the Monorail layout:
Install TRS2006 and SP1.
Run TRS2006.
Select the Manage Content option, which invokes CMP.
In the CMP menu, File > Import CDP's.
Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2006\Docs\manuals_cd\extras\Monorail folder.
The official instructions say to select all nine CDP files in this folder and then click the "Open" button. As this seems to confuse CMP, it might be better to process each of the files separately, one at a time. If after installing these files some missing dependencies are reported, it might help to commit all the assets which are currently open for edit. There shouldn't be any need to download any dependencies from DLS or elsewhere.

After installation, the Surveyor and Driver menus should show a layout called "Monorail Demo 2" with a Driver session of the same name.

There's just alot of assets (more than I can type out here) that have this exclamation mark that indicates a missing dependency of some sort. I tried committing them all and they show up fine, it's just that not having a 'clean' collection bugs me sometime.

How about the weird water? I'm really getting frustrated. I'll upload a screenshot if you guys still don't get what I mean.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.
